I have a question. I am having a severe headache in the frontal top of my head. I am also having nausea.
I am on 200mg daily of doxy. Have been on for 1 week. I am feeling better neurologically but this does not feel good.
My doc said "if you vomit once, and I mean only once" I want you to stop the doxy. Can anyone guess why he would say that?
The area of the headache is where the brain lesions were enhanced on the MRI, does this correlate?
I have been feeling great but now feel like crap.
Also, I have started a dietary supplement called HOODIE (all natural) to help lose weight. Is this a bad idea while on doxy?

Thanks
John.

Hi John....

On Doxy and nausueas [Frown] ............call doc...its a side effect of the doxy, he can change it to some thing else. I had the same trouble.

As for the lesions....it just might be and thats why Doc stated what he did.

Heres hoping you feel better...............and call that doc asap and let him know how you are feeling. Hopefully we can get you back to feeling half normal once again !

Chin Up ! [Wink]

Bon,
Thnx. But, it is one incidence of headache. I was in a room filled with ciggy smoke and had a very rough day. Also, tons of stress. The headache went away just now as did the nausea. But, the two coincided.
All so confusing.

I am surprised that you were the only one to reply, but thanks.

There is a flu bug going around exactly like you are describing, also, and I think somehow it's tied into the sinus cavitities though you wont get a sinus infection, just a heck of sinus headache and fever, do you have any fever?

G'morning, John.

Doxy, new in treatment for Lyme, = headache.

Doxy has great blood brain barrier penetration. However, it is known for increasing intercranial pressure.

That, plus big borrelia die-off, = NOT FUN.

Diamox is something to try, relieves pressure for some.

A trial of a good headache med such as Relpax may help. (Not a narcotic.) Contraindicated if you have any heart issues.

You're not going to be able to get around some headache pain; just work on trying to manage it and detox as much as possible/juggle symptoms.

I hate to say 'be thankful' for headache pain but in a way, look at it as a good diagnostic sign! If you "just" had MS, it's unlikely that taking abx would be giving you headaches. However, with borrelia infection, it's EXTREMELY LIKELY and in fact almost guaranteed.

Please hang in there. Things will get better!

John,
I've read about hoodia for weight loss, and I think it's a cool idea. But....I don't think you should be taking it when you're starting the antibiotic.

If the antibiotic makes you feel nauseated, you probably won't be eating as much.

What you could do is take something that will support your liver function, as the liver will have to detoxify all those dead spirochetes in your blood stream.
Read up about milk thistle.

Another idea is Sarsaparilla, which binds endotoxins in the blood.
You can read about this in "Healing Lyme" by Stephen Buhner.

Your liver uses glutathione in the detoxifying process. You can supplement the precursers of glutathione by taking Acetyl L-Carnitine and N-Acetyl-L Cystein.

Just some ideas.

Hi LostCityAgent

sorry to hear you are having some problems.

I have been on doxy on and off for years. here are a few tips:

take your doxy with a large meal and swallow it with a large glass of water. You can even take it in the middle of a meal.

Make sure to drink it with the recommend 8 oz of water

Don't lay down for several hours after taking it.
It can cause regerg and burn your throat.

Peppermint & chamaille teas/ and ginger can help with nausea.

My first herx symptom was headache/headpressure.
No matter what abx you take, you may experience this brain die off. There is no way around this herx. Some posted, have tryed the med mentioned above ,but it has alot of side effects.

hang in there. It does get better over time.

Good Morning,
Thanks to all of you, my friends. One positive note is that the doxy does not seem to effect me in the sun. Keep in mind that I am 300LBS, 1 week on it, 200mg daily. Not much! Dr. P wants to start of gradually due to the spine lesions.
That nausea was no fun, but it only lasted an hour or so along with a nasty headache. How to be sure this is a herx? I am constipated as well. How do I know if something is definitively a herxeimer as opposed to what could be a combinatory effect or something else altogether?

John,

Glad the nausea passed.

The "nasty headache" you speak of is about the most common manifestation of herxheimer effect with doxy, which is known for causing increased intercranial pressure.

So it's unlikely to be NOT a herx. :-)

Eat a good breakfast (minus milk). Stop in the middle. Take the doxy. Drink a big glass of water. Then finish breakfast.

If you feel like crapola, go sit in an easy chair until it passes. This might take an hour, but just sit there. Do NOT lie down. It will pass. It will get better with time.

Your reaction to Doxy sounds a lot like mine, and probably echoes the reaction of many others on this Board.

Don't let the headaches get you down.

Hang in there!

Drink your lemon water!

Be really careful about the sun, no matter what you think! [tsk]

[group hug]

Hello,
I am on day 6 of Doxy and today I had a semi bad headache and quite upset at my stomach also. This is just the pits.I kept telling myself though that he medicine was killing the little buggers off. You better call your doctor though,

John,
You said you have constipation.

Since Lymies are usually low in magnesium, you could supplement the mag by taking one fourth teaspoon of magnesium citrate every hour or two.

This would give the body a steady supply of mag, which it desparately needs for enzyme processes, ATP energy production, and to make antibodies.

If you get TOO much magnesium, you will get loose stools. This happened to me, and slowing down on the mag fixed that.

So....knock off two birds with one stone.

Carol

p.s. Please check with a pharmacist to make sure that mag is not contraindicated with doxy.

Thanks Carol et al.

Yes, I will do that. Just returned from the pharm to talk about verapamil and lamisil (for my feet) and doxy. They all work fine, now I will find out this one.
I have tested myself in the sun and have no problems thus far. Being part Hawaiian may help in this area.
I am on doxy, end of this week up to 300mg. Also HOODIA, B-12, to name a few for such natural things.

Jmcc.
