I am not a Dr and there are not many on, but if it were me, I would call my Dr and stop the abx.

Good luck...lymemomtooo

lalyme:
What do you have on hand for pain?
Taking an analgesic might help to dull the wave of pain.

Putting something on the rash might help.
Like ice.
Do you have one of those "blue ice" packs that go in picnic baskets? Or make up an ice pack and wrap in a dish towel, tape the towel closed with masking tape.

I also thought about one of those creams that have the hot pepper in them, capsacian. But that might not be so good on a rash....

The ice or the capsacian cream would "fool" the nerve endings, and the pain message might not reach the brain.

Are you taking any probiotics for yeast? Also, you might need a colonic for die off of bacteria. Of course call your doctor.

One more thing, are you drinking plenty of water? Dehydration can cause pain. Hope you feel better soon,

So sorry you're going through this. Yes, contact your doc.

Just curious, what does the rash look like? Does it appear anything like these?:

Tabby and all.

It is not like the rashes in the pix. It is like a red blanket and some splotches. I called LLMD and he said sop all Meds for 3 days and call him then. H thinks that it might be the Lyme coming out , but he doesn't know for sure. Thanks so much for your feedback. Just really scared.

When someone mentions a rash around their waist my first thought is always shingles.

Will see if I can post something else about this later tonight.

Bea--that's what the links point to in my post above. I was thinking the same, especially by the amount of pain lalyme was speaking of.

lalyme--so glad you're LLMD got back to you so quickly! Keep us posted on how you are doing, okay?

Is there any way you can take a photo of the rash for your records just in case it is gone (hopefully it will be) by your next LLMD visit?

If it's an allergic reaction on the skin then benadryl cream really helps. If it's a herpes virus(shingles) than putting ice on it helps. If it's lyme than I don't know.

You might want to get a prescription for Valtrex ASAP, probably won't hurt and May really help, now and in the long run--if you suspect shingles at all. take a huge dose if you are even going to bother.

Shingles is the first thing I thought of too-especially because of the pain level.
Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone. I am on Valtrex, as I have had Herpes for years now, but startd taking the valtrex everyday two days ago. I normally take it only when I have outbreaks. From what I see in the pix the shingles look like blisters and mine don't. Unless shingles can look like anything. But mine looks more like red elephant skin, the way elephants sort of have rough tiny bumps on their skin. I am really thankful for your responses and will talk to LLMD about all this when I speak with him next and let you guys know. Much Thanks and appreciation.

While you're waiting to get Valtrex or whatever the next step you have planned is, you could try dabbing some hydrogen peroxide solution on it. It sometimes helps soothe and eventually dry up rashes for me. If it seems to help, then try putting it on 2-3 times a day.

Hope you feel better soon.

I have seen on several sights, that bartonella is the bacteria behind shingles. I have been searching for this info.

Just can't remember where I saw it. Will keep searching. I have bartonella and it was mistaken for shingles and herpes simplex.

Hope your pain is easing up. Also can correlate with burning scalp pain which I have.

Hello,
I used to work as a CNA for about 17 years and to the best that I remember, shingles are not really blisters. They itch and hurt at the same time and do start at your waist I think? I remember a lady had them pretty bad and it was a rash.

You have to get on top of the situation as soon as possible ( get meds) or it will spread and you will have lingering pain for months.
