I'm really frustrated with knowing whether or not the Doxy I'm taking is working or not. I've been taking it for about 3 1/2 weeks, and some days I think it may be working, some days it's just plain awful. Do symptoms generally start to diminish all together or one-by-one? I'm worried this is more serious than Lyme. I'm taking 200 mg of Doxy per day - can that be enough to herx on?

hahahahahahahha...I'm not laughing, this is hysteria.

Oh my gosh Pat. Does it get more serious than Lyme?

Ok that is out of my system now.

Have you been tested for co-infections?

pat,

I thought your questions were good ones, and with Lyme treatment, 3 weeks really isn't much time. That's especially true if a lot of time passed between your bite and your diagnosis/ treatment.

Often what happens initially after starting antibiotics is that your symptoms will get worse. At least that's what I was told to expect.

In fact, things for me got much worse before they began to get better. It took about 3 or 4 months before I could see any improvements...and they were nominal at first.

It was helpful for me to keep track of my symptoms. That gave me an objective measure of my progress (or lack of progress) and became a good resource for my Lyme doctor.

There's a really good symptom chart here:
http://www.lymepa.org/html/ldasepa_useful_information.html

Try not to get discouraged; my doc says half the battle is a mental one...and this one re3ally is tough.

200 mg isn't crap.

to luvs2ride:
well, I guess I'd consider MS to be slightly more serious, esp. since there's absolutely no real hope of improvement involved.

200mg a day is enough to herx on depending on the person. My husband is on 200mg a day of doxy, and herxs alot. But he has to work and be able to function.

3 1/2 weeks is not a long time. Give it some time and it will get better. For me the first 4 months were the toughest! But it has gotten so much better now after 18 months.

I am still on low doses of abx. But I am improving on those doses, so it really depends on the person, how long you have been infected and co-infections. Everyone is different.

My symptoms actually got alot worse when I started abx, I got NEW ones! But then after some time they started change and to go away. Or at least decrease in severity.

I also did alot of detoxing, watched my diet, and alot of vitamins and minerals.

Hello Pat,
I just got lyme disease about 6 or 7 weeks ago.At first my sister ( she is a PA ) Put me on 200 mg of doxy for 3 weeks.I had swollen lymp nodes, chills,EM ect..

I finally convinced her to let me stay on it longer and she called today and said she called in the script for 4 more weeks making a total of 7 weeks.

What really bothers me is if I have coinfections I am sure the nasty little buggers are just wait to come out a little later and the doxy dose is not high enough.I believe it is the cdc web page that says the blood leval has to be at a* high enough dose* to kill the spiroketts.

I did get sicker at my stomach at first, got a rash on one arm and had a few sharp pains shoot thru my head. Now I am not feeling any of that.

Our daughter probably has to have a surgery this summer or I would have went to an LLMD a couple of hours away.I hope you have been to one.

Your local library may have some good books on lyme disease and the ones I checked out talked about the diffrent meds and the herxes,ect..

Hi,

When did you get infected?

You asked a question about what the path of recovery looks like...

The thing we keep seeing is that in one way each person has a different experience. That is one reason it can be so confusing at first.

Overall, the pattern, in our experience is that our symptoms increased when we started treatment and were incredibly fatigued. Then the symptoms gradually went away and periods of energy returned. It has taken a while to get back that feeling of well being. I have it most of the time. My kids are not there yet.

So bad news is when you start treatment it gets worse. The very good news is that it will get better. Takes a lot of patience.
Get some comfy jammies, heating pad, books and DVD's. We like the service where they mail them to you.

Keep us posted!
