Anyone have any experiences using one of these? They say the FAR Infared is much more effective than regular hot-air saunas, especially important for us Lyme sufferers.

We just installed one about 5 weeks ago and I have to say that I love it! I don't tolerate normal saunas/hot tubs but I look forward to my time in the sauna every morning. Only 30 min. I feel more energized, my arthritis is not as severe.

we purchased ours from High Tech Health and it was easy to install, doesn't take up a lot of room.

That's great. We just ordered one and we're looking forward to it. They say it helps VERY much. I've been going to a hot-air sauna a few times a week for most of the past year, but they say the FAR Infared is even better. Once it arrives and I can vouch for the quality, I'll mention where I got it.
Thanks for the input!

It might be a good idea to take some form of an electrolyte drink after doing this to restore some minerals.

A GOOD mineral rich water such as Voss (in a glass bottle from Norway) or any other artesian water would be the ideal.

For those who might not know...artesian wells come up from deep in the earth. The water is VERY cold and is loaded with minerals.

It tastes incredible...delicious....when right from the source. I had the opportunity once to taste artesian well water right from a "free" well.

This was unlike ANY water I had ever tasted...I have to add a slice of lemon to (our) water to drink it...to improve the taste. Filtered water just is too blah. Nothing healthy in it.

For those of you who have your own deep wells despite that unpleasant sulfur smell...consider yourselves lucky.

High Tech Health is an excellent option. I got a less expensive portable model for about 550. Information about it is on my web site below on the main page. Just used it last night.... [Smile]

I love mine, just don't over do it, especially in the beginning.

My LLMD says his patients who do the best use an FIR sauna. He recommended that I never exceed 110 degrees and never for more than 20 minutes every other day. He also suggested starting off slowly and working up to 110/20 min.

I bought a used High Tech sauna. I preheat it to 98 or so and then set the temp to 110 just as I enter. That way the FIR elements are on for most the duration of the sauna. I like the way that feels better than the ambient heat when the elements are not on.

I believe I read that with Heavenly Heat FIR saunas the elements are on the entire time and the amount of heat they put out is regulated as opposed to just being on or off with the High Tech Health and other saunas.

Somewhere along the line, it was recommended to get the Birch wood sauna since cedar and other woods are more likely cause or cause one to develop allergic rxns. Somewhere there is a woodworker website with info on this.

Best of luck,
D

Hello, mine seats two people...its about four feet, by three feet, by seven feet tall. I use it 5 times a week..it's been great for me. Much more intense than a hot-air sauna. I've heard lots of wonderful things about the health benefits too.

The one Scott has on his BetterHealthGuy website is collapsible and portable. I'm really looking into that.

someone asked about anything BAD about FIR saunas. On the sunlightsaunas website, they talk about contraindications--congestive heart failure and other medical conditions that makes it problematic for your body to sweat. Also certain medications tell you not to use hot tubs or sauna--fentanyl is one that I know of. Additional info here: http://www.sunlightsaunas.com/contraindications.htm

Incidentally, my husband and I love our recently acquired Sunlight Sauna.

We have used the small here for a few years. It is plenty large. We love each other, but we do not share a sauna.

Just don't share it with your partner at the same time. You are "outgasing" and your partner breathes in. Same for the partner. We use it separately, each with own towels; then air the cabin out into a room that you do not use for a while. If you sweat a lot, change small handtowels. Don't continue using the wet one.
You are just rubbing it in again! If you have to use a second towel, toss the wet one outside the cabin until you are done and can drop it into a safe place for laundering. I am not fussy - this is how heavy metals work!

Don't use it in the early stages of heavy metal detox. It can backfire -- back into the brain. Once you have done detox for a while, it is safer except for sharing. It is not a replacement for serious heavy metal detox. Believe me, please.

I wish people would get as hysterical about amalgam fillings as they do about the spilled thermometer on another post today! It is funny - The amalgam fillings are spilling 24/7 year after year after year. They still spill out mercury fifty years after the filling was placed in the mouth. I recently saw a pulled tooth that was filled with amalgam 50 years ago and scientist could still capture the vapor fumes coming out of the tooth now - they photographed it with a special technique. Fuming - outgasing just like a chimney in cold weather.

Take care.

P.S. And remember if you had your amalgams pulled, you still have all the mercury in your body that outgased while you had them in your mouth. If you do not do a detox, the mercury and associated metals (never mercury alone) are still in your brain and body/gut/joints/CNS/back/ neck/low back/feet -- wherever. That's the nature of the beast.

Theoretically, the far-infrared might INDEED make you herx (TNF alpha shoots up).

Uhm...

30 minutes daily...exposure to this particular sauna might have tremendous benefits from many angles.

Now...about Mn. IF it is released...

It looks like a particular nutrient in CoQ10 might help.

Look at the dosages they are giving to Parkinson's patients.

One acid to downregulate another...perhaps.

Don't expect miracles overnight.

P.S. OUR OWN BILE SALTS SHOULD BE REMOVING Hg if the intestional barrier is not damaged too. Bile salts need choline which look to bond to Hg.(This is why some fish are "contaminated")

If enough is present for Bb (which wants choline) AND for us...as one of the nutrients in bile...would then the mercury lock onto bile salts and be removed from the system?

Reference re: the fish choline-Hg:

And certain choline-rich fish like swordfish and tuna can also have a high mercury content, which is harmful to fetuses.

Hg, Mn excess - both are toxic.

Another source:

There are reasons WHY the various woods used in the construction are very, very important.

Look closely at wood. It has natural "antibiotic" properties.

I'm newly diagnosed but started reading these boards the day after my Igenex blood was drawn.

This FIR sauna topic has definitely intrigued me so when I mentioned it to my LLMD, his quote was "you aren't ready for anything like that yet."

Granted, asking about this on the day of my diagnosis was probably jumping the gun, but my question is....

how far into your abx did you go before using FIR and wwas there anything specific that happens that makes you "ready"?

All opinions are appreciated.

Hi Cathy, hope you are seeing some improvement. I did not start the sauna until more than a year into my oral ABX....and didn't start the FIR sauna until two years. At first, I could do only a few minutes because it really caused my symptoms to flare...but now I am doing 30 min five times a week. I'm on hiatus now becuase I just got the IV...and I'm not doing the sauna with the IV. I was about 80% and had some lingering things that we thought perhaps the IV could clear up.

Good luck!
