Can these to meds be taken at the same time?

I don't see why not. I've done it. Also, Levaquin may theoretically increase the anti-babacidal activity of your Mepron Zith combo.

Levaquin has anti-malaria properties.

I am on Levaquin and Malarone (1 per day) .... also Artemisia, Lariam, and Plaquenil .... plus minocycline ... and Tindamax one week per month.

I've thought about this more .... doesn't Levaquin interact with Zith/Biaxin? I think it's okay with Malarone, but not Mepron ... not because of the Mepron, but because of the Zith/Biaxin.

Since I'm not a doctor, I can't say, but I do know that my LLMD had me on zith, mepron and cipro all at the same time. I know that Cipro is in the same family as Levaquin.

I was only on that combo for two months, and now taking doxy with the mepron and zith. But in those two months, I don't believe I had any problems from that combination.

But seeing what sixgoofykids says about the possible conflict between zith and Levaquin, I'd definitely not do it without talking to your doctor or a pharmacist. Good luck.

Cathy, I was on Mepron/Biaxin, and was put on Cipro for a while. However, when I started Levaquin, I had to get off the Biaxin. I wonder if Levaquin interacts and Cipro doesn't??? Definitely a question for the pharmacist!

Tosho,

Wow....I knew there was a reason that I love this place. I was just barely put on the Doxy (only a couple days in) and have been on the mepron and zith since end of April.

Since I had bart symptoms coming back in full force and he was concerned about my cipro side effects with my eye's, he stopped that drug and put me on the Doxy.

So, I guess what I need to know is if there is ANY med you can take with mepron and zith that will also help the bart. Oddly, since taking the doxy, my lymph nodes that were getting huge even while on cipro are starting to go down ever so slightly...so I was thinking this is positive.

But with the COST of mepron, I surely don't want to be wasting it. Since it's obvious my doctor doesn't know about this aspect, can any one offer a different drug that would help better than Doxy?

Would Rifampin be a better choice or is it also not a good one? We had talked about that drug, but my doctor said he didn't like it. I was so sick at the time, so never asked him why.

If anyone can offer alternatives I can run by my doctor, it would be so very appreciated. Thank you!!!!!!!

Cathy

Tosho,

I really do appreciate your imput on this. I did go out and watch the video on Dr. B as you had mentioned, but dang, in my lyme brain and all those drug names, they all start sounding a like to me.

It's sad because I know there are very few top of the line lyme doctors in our country and a lot that are on our lists, but just trying to experiment and toss various drug combinations at it hoping to "find the right drug for the right bug" since there isn't a set protocol that works for everyone.

But right now, I'm wondering what I should be doing since it's obvious my LLMD doesn't know about this aspect or else why would he put me on it? Basically I suppose I should only be treating one co-infection at a time, but then which one do you target first?

I have basically put all my faith in my doctor since he really has tried to help when all the other doctors felt nothing could cause all my symptoms.

Is there ANY way to treat bart AND babs at the same time without lowering the power of any of your drugs? And what do I say to my doctor without coming off as "I read this on the internet".

I read somewhere recently "Hope to Heal Lyme" notes I think, "if treating bartonella + babesia concurrent infection, consider plaquenil + macrolide + septra + mepron".....I think that's what my LLMD proposed too.

Everyone has been so very helpful. Thank you for the imput and Tosho, thanks for the link that I can use to back up my suggestion that we try a different combination.

I'm still struggling with the fact that we all are being forced to be our own doctors as to what we shouldn't mix with what when our doctors don't seem to know.

Thanks again!!!!

I thought I would bring this post to the forefront right now since it seems that there is some confusion about this.

I know many people who have been prescribed the TETRAS (doxy, tetracycline, mino), in CONJUNCTION WITH MEPRON.

I think that more people need to be aware of these drug interactions and bring them up to their LLMDs or other doctors who might try to prescribe them.

Later they cannot understand why the babs treatment failed. I have then seen them writing off babs treatment as being worth their time.

However, they still need babs tx - the problem was they were on a tx that was rendering the mepron almost ineffective.

Especially important since babs is notorious for developing resistance easily!

We need to educate ourselves as much as we can in these diseases and not rely exclusively on others knowledge, unfortunately.

My LLMD says I can only take levaquin on the week OFF from mepron/macrolide combo. He said that I could not take BIAXIN (macrolide- same category as zith) at the same time as levaquin... he did not mention anything pro or con about the mepron part specifically- don't know about that bit either way, sorry.
