I was wondering if Lymies have a higher incidence of cervical dysplasia than normal people.

I had an abnormal pap smear that tested postive for HPV - a virus. Usually your body will kill the virus on it's own but some strains of HPV go on to cause cervical cancer.

They did a biopsy and today put some kind of acid on my cervix to kill off the bad cells and promote new growth.

Anyone have this before?

Thanks,
Cutie

Me, no HPV though. Mom had it to the point of seriously precancerous, needed hysterectomy.

Yes, I had it 15 years ago and no further problems so far after having cryosurgery to remove the abnormal cells.

I did--about 15 years ago, a few years into (unrecognized) Lyme infection. Never connected the two!

Yes, mine was caused by HPV, had the spot burned out. When he was doing the biopsy, it hurt bad. I passed out when they tilted the table back up.

I always thought it was stress from the pain, but now I wonder if it wasn't a positional hypotension experience.

That doctor was a b******, but I've never had it come back.

Thanks for the replies! It's so nice to hear that once you had it treated it didn't come back. Thank Goodness, I don't feel like I an deal with any more health issues right now.

I have had cervical dysplasia as well.

After an annual exam about 10 years ago, my pap results showed that the cells were at Grade 3, which I think I remember are the highest precancerous cells before turning into cancer.

Funny thing... the previous years pap was normal. How did the cells change so much in one year?

I had the cryosurgery done in '97 and have had normal results since.

After years of strange symptoms and mis-diagnoses,
last fall I was finally diagnosed with late, chronic neuro lyme and coinfections.

Very interesting... Never even thought to connect the two.

Yep, me too. I was sure there was a connection from the beginning. I had just figured out I had lyme, a positive ELISA and low iron levels a few months before the bad PAP.

After the GYN offered slice and dice and a fix I roamed around and discovered that folic acid deficiency can cause CD. Folic acid is needed for normal DNA replication. This is why higher levels are recommended for pregnant woman.

I self medicated for about 6 weeks before my re-test and all was nornal and remains so. I take I higher than normnl level of folic acid. My iron levels have come up too.

The sites I bookmarked in 2000 are all gone now, but treatment with a much higher level of folic acid for a couple of months before a re-PAP frequently causes the bad cells to disapeer and cervical health to return to normal. The info I found suggested this is a treatment in Europe.

My current llmd has discovered that I had trouble absorbing nutrients. I have read recently that some people, for whatever reason need much more folic acid than 400 IU. There are new studies that are point to folic acid as anti-cancer.

Lyme, beng a chronic infection, runs so many nutrients out of our bodies.

Yep. The lyme sure did lower my immune system.
Had to have a leep in 94.
Never had an abnormal pap since.

But I think alot of recent research for the cause is HPV.

My gyno said your immune system usually fights off the virus (hpv). I guess my immune system is just trashed right now with the Lyme?
