I got a clot from my PICC line and the line was removed. I was admitted to the hospital and treated. I am still on blood thinners and will be for several months.
I still have the clot. I am still sore in the area the clot is. Sometimes the pain/soreness spreads. I am calling my doctor to check about some of the discomfort I am having tomorrow.
For those of you that have had blood clots...How long did it take you to feel better? To no longer be sore in the area? To feel "normal" again?

I had a large clot from my PICC line. It took about 8 months for me to feel little to no pain in that arm. It still occasionally aches! Hope yours feels better faster. Cindy

My daughter had problems with clots to the extent that they couldn't get the last line in. At the suggestion of the nurse ( not the doctor!), we saw a hematologist. In spite of his doubt that he would find anything wrong, he did coagulation tests and discovered a Protein S deficiency, a rare and "inherited" disorder. Proved NOT to be inherited as neither her father or I have it! After much diagreement between the hematologist and LLMD over treatment, cause, etc., the LLMD won out. Coagulation problems often accompany prolonged infection! Go the the Hemex Lab and Dr. Crist's websites:
My daughter is improving with Lovenox, a low-molecular heparin injection AND with nattokinase. She tried the warfarin recommended by the hematologist with terrible results because it interfered with many of the meds she was or needed to be on. The hematologist, through this process, has "learned" a lot about coagulation disorders and has been very gracious in acknowledging it.
But please take a look at the websites. Our LLMD just spent time at a seminar learning all about the hypercoagulation issues and has begun testing all his patients who are no longer responding well to abx. He is finding a significant percentage with coagulation problems!

Thanks for all of the info! I will go check out the websites. I certainly hope the soreness from the clot calms down sooner than later!
I was on the heparin shots you mentioned. Once my oral blood thinner got to the right level, those were phased out.
I probably won't do another PICC line after this experience, especially due to the severity of my clot, and other factors. We have been considering getting blood clotting levels, etc. checked in a study like mentioned.
One doctor said it wasn't needed, but we still think it would be good to rule out for sure.

So sorry you are going thru this - i just had a picc removed due to blood clots and know what you mean. Had a repeat sonogram today and no clots (5 days lovenox and 2 weeks warfarin) and will be on warfarin for months.
This is the second time i got a clot. I'll never get a picc again either - i'm seeing a hemotologist monday too.
good luck to your daughter hope she is doing somewhat better.
