In my opinion, what we have here is simply an overpriced fruit drink. Fruit drinks are often healthful beverages. But the only reason I can see that the promoters of mangosteen can get away with charging $37 for this product is that they are playing on patients' hopes and fears in a cynical way. Without the health claims, open or implied, the product could only be sold for at most $5 or $6 (which, for example, is the cost of antioxidant-rich pomegranate juice).

I would tend to agree. Interesting to see [from the same article] that folk medicine uses didn't mention any uses for drinking the juice.

"The sliced and dried rind is powdered and administered to overcome dysentery. Made into an ointment, it is applied on eczema and other skin disorders. The rind decoction is taken to relieve diarrhea and cystitis, gonorrhea and gleet [a watery discharge, ed.] and is applied externally as an astringent lotion. A portion of the rind is steeped in water overnight and the infusion given as a remedy for chronic diarrhea in adults and children.

"Filipinos employ a decoction of the leaves and bark as a febrifuge and to treat thrush, diarrhea, dysentery and urinary disorders. In Malaya, an infusion of the leaves, combined with unripe banana and a little benzoin is applied to the wound of circumcision. A root decoction is taken to regulate menstruation. A bark extract called 'amibiasine', has been marketed for the treatment of amoebic dysentery."

Interesting.......

Lymetoo, this article can't even get Moss's name correct. Once he is called Frank Moss, and once Ralph.

The author of the article makes statements, and expects the statements themselves to stand as truth, exactly the same fault he criticizes in several of Xango's critics.

He even comments on Ralph Moss's name of a Friendly Sceptic, taking it personally, apparently unaware that is the name Moss uses for all his reports. It wasn't directed at mangosteen especially.

Whether or not Xango is of any use, this is not a very good retort to the original article. Even the list of biases he lists for Moss are not real. Moss does not believe drugs are better, the whole focus of his work is to find out how to incorporate appropriate and effective alternative treatments in conjunction with effective conventional medicine.

Why is that "the REAL truth"?

I noticed that your link shows mainly articles by Dr. Templeman. He is also being discussed in "A Friendly Skeptic Looks at Mangosteen".

Especially the paragraph "Reality Check" is interesting when you want the REAL truth.

I am concerned about the objectivity of those articles by Dr. Templeman, because they are published on a website that also sells books, videos, etc. about Mangosteen.

I can only tell you what its done for me. I've been on the heaviest sleep medicine there is: Xyrem!

They practically send a police escort when they deliver it to your house.

It has in it the same properties as the date rape drug. Once I take it, I sleep - can't wake up even if it wanted to until 4 hours later.

I've not slept for 20 years without waking up 5 or 6 times a night. I thought it was normal.

The Xyrem was great but I have teens and didn't like the idea of them being out at night late and me not able to wake up if I needed to.

After taking my Mangosteen Juice for 2 months, I tried not using the Xyrem and slept like I haven't in years. I'm not on any sleep meds now and fall right off to sleep and don't wake up until morning. I can't believe it.

I don't think "fruit juice" can do that. Check out all the PubMed articles on the Mangosteen fruit that were published way before Xango came along. Type in Xanthones (antioxidants in the fruit) or mangosteen.

My allergies are better, energy is better, and I sleep like a baby.

My husband sent a box to his mother and she cautiously told us the first month she thought it was helping her arthritis in her shoulder that was so bad she could barely get around.

She told my husband the other day (3 months of using it) that she is almost pain free! My hubby also uses it and has a lot more energy and he's healthy!

When it works for me and my family, nobody can take that away. I never believed other people's testimonials on stuff like this - not until this product came along.

Um, Sewer Rat,

If a product got you off 6 or more of your medications, you'd say the same thing too.

I know Lymetoo - she's the real deal! You've been on here - 23 times - maybe do a little research on her past posts!

I learned long ago that if you want to know the real story on a product/drug/ or whatever, you talk to real people who have used it.

Anyone can cite an article. Give me information based on your first-hand experiences. Then pass judgment.

Xango appears to be one of those products that helps some people but not others. Just like most drugs on the market.

Funny that we don't hear a lot of negative comments like this about drugs that cost $300.00 a month, but only cost the drug company a couple of dollars to produce.

And there's no money back guarantee on the drugs!! [Razz]

If Dr Moss had TRIED the product, he'd be singing a different verse.

Some people really thinks it helps them, and maybe it does.

Matabolism plays into everything here including the antibiotics we take. Maybe some people derive a real benefit.

Research doesn't come cheap. So the price might be in line with the research done on the product.

I think Mangosteen gets a lot of unfair press. Go in any GNC and you will see many expensive supplements of very limited or no value. At least Magosteen has some healthful benefits.

So Sewer Rat, What is it that you are trying to say through your posting the link to an article? Are you the writer?

How does this help anyone? Have you an alternative?

If you don't like what you see, change the channel.

Sewer Rat,

Why don't you find someone near you who sells it and try a bottle.

It may just pull you right out of the sewer!!!
