Hello Lymies,

I took my dd to the pediatric neurologist and the EEG and exam was normal. Neuro wants an MRI with and without contrast so they can see if there is something else going on.

Dd has been having some weird spastic/seizure-like activity. They have been increasing in frequency.

Her LLMD results won't be back until the 28th.

Do you think I need a LLMD (neuro) for this test, or should I have it done locally and then send the results to a LL neurologist?

In a quandry...

For an MRI any neuro will work in my opinion. An LLMD neuro can always review the films if needed, but this test is used more to rule out other things than to diagnose Lyme.

In my opinion, the SPECT scan if done is the one that would need to be done by an LLMD neuro.

Might want to ask whether the facility doing the test offers music either piped in or thru headphones -- test can be very loud. I would imagine that some kids could have difficulty lying still during the test. Not sure if they sedate kids or not. Very important to keep eyes closed during test to get a good scan.

I had an MRI of my brain done on Friday. They had DVDs available so I was able to watch a (funny) movie during the procedure. It is VERY loud. My daughter was in the room and they gave her ear plugs.

I am seeing a LL neuro tomorrow.

I think either way you propose to have her results evaluated would work. The important thing is to have someone Lyme literate review.

hi i'd have the mri done as the others said just so you have it handy and don't have to wait another week for one.

most places let you preregister now for these tests, i'd ask if you could give her some benadryl beforehand to help relax her if you think she'll be afraid.

i'm a big scaredy cat when it comes to tests and i took .5 of ativan beforehand and was fine, just antsy because they kept saying stay still, oh sure....easy for them to say...lol.

it's good that the eeg was normal, this will usually show seizure activity.

good luck and keep us updated
