I do know one person who says that after being bitten by a tick years ago, and getting the classic bullseye rash, they ALWAYS react badly to ANY kind of bug bite ever since then.

So, I wonder if that could be the same in your case?

I would sure do some searching on West Nile Virus - I don't know if a rash is common with that or not. But if you are pretty sure it was a mosquito....

Daniella,

Ever since I got sick, I've been really sensitive to mosquito bites. There's often a ring rash around them, and they take forever to heal.

I use aloe to stop the itching but sometimes they still scar.

This has made me fanatical about using bug spray. Dealing with the bites is just too much for me.

Hope this helps!

Daniella, so sorry to read of your reinfections! Remember to take photos with coins, etc. in there to show the size they are.

Tutu/LYMETOO is one of those reinfected, so be sure to PM her etc for advise. Best wishes!

Does a classic bulleye rash show up that quickly?

Could you have spider bites? They also itch.

Hi Daniella

Take pictures of the bites-
it could help you later on--

One other thing about insect bites--
you can put Toothpaste on the bite and it
sucks out the poisons the insect leaves--

Use the regular plane old tooth paste
not the gell kind--

Put a dab of toothpaste on the bite and
cover it with some TP or something so that
the toothpaste dose not get everywhere--

Leave the toothpaste on the bite for 20 minutes
or so-- and Bingo --the bite is gone--

You do need to put the toothpaste on the bite
within a few minutes for it to work(under 5)

Toothpaste workes much better than anything
else I have used --

Also the Cutters brand of insect repellant
works MUCH better than -Off- brand--Jay--

Daniella,

Are you already on antibiotics for Lyme? Then at least you'd probably be protected.

My dad recently contracted Lyme (I'm chronic, this is a nightmare that he has been bitten). This time it's Lyme but in the past he did get a mosquito bite that did have somewhat of a bulls-eye look, so I know it's hard to know if it's Lyme or a reaction to a mosquito bite.

One Lyme patient I know says she got Lyme from a mosquito bite on the east coast, so do you have a LLMD you can call about this? My LLMD says it's rare to get Lyme from a mosquito but I've read so many conflicting things.

Definitely take the photos with a ruler or coin in the photo.

And, no, West Nile does not cause the bulls-eye, I looked it up when my dad was bitten.

DAniella, my daughter developed her new bulls eye at the exact site of a mosquito bite..She did not have a tick bite that we know of.

She never has had a bulls eye before but is diagnosed with chronic lyme disease, bartonella and for a time was treated for babesosis. She did have positive urine tests.

It has been 2 months and she has drifted back into many symptoms that had disappeared..So please be cautious and treat this..lymemomtooo

Hey........the uniform size of the bites sounds like chiggers........ Nasty little buggers that they are.

Just a thought.

I do think that people who are ill from STARI or Lyme, have worse reactions to mosquito bites though.

Yes, LYMETOO, is the person you want to PM for more info since she was reinfected last year.

Daniella, this almost sounds more like an allergic reaction or over-reactions of some kind....

In any case, DO talk to your LLMD about this, as I don't think it is quite normal.

Hi Daniella [hi]

I am freaking out with you...although I can't imagine you got bit by seven mosqu that all have lyme so I'd go with the over reaction theory.

You're immune system is on red alert for any weirdness. I'm prayin for you.

Daniella, the EM rash can be very different from one person to the next but most grow, or have outer rows of the shape, repeatedly.

Check out some of the rash photos in the archives for comparison.

And make sure it is not an allergic reaction to the bite..I know that some can have severe reactions to bees and one too many may be fatal..Not sure if anyone can become so allergic to mosquitos or not.

Good luck..lymemomtooo

You were having chest flutters & trouble breathing last night.

Are you OK today?

Daniella...

Your not alone. I feel that I was initially infected by mosquito(es). I have often wondered if this has been some sort of West Nile issue.

I live in a "West Nile-Endemic" state, and have a retention pond in our neighborhood along with mosquitoes that love to eat me for lunch!

I've been on oral Abx treatment for ~2 yrs...and seem to be chronic albeit not severe. (CDC positive via Igenex btw)

I recently went out without Deet, and was bitten several times. The bites were "normal", and didn't develop a rash or ring.

Within a couple of days I was on a downward spiral with headaches and other original symptoms (muscle aches/heel pain/muscle twitching). Digestive issues followed as well.

I really don't think I was initially infected by a tick. I think it was mosquitoes or by potting/planting soil getting into minor cuts from planting trees/plants/bushes (ie hang nails and slight cuts from thorns).

I also find it interesting that the only abx combo that makes a diference for me these days is Zith and Mepron...an anti-malarial.

This issue of Mosquito-transmitted Lyme, or STARI, or WHATEVER it is we're all dealing with, needs to be given more attention.

...ok off my soapbox now [Razz] .

I just wanted to let you know your not alone in your thoughts and experiences with mosquitoes. They are a very real threat!

The product that works best for me is "Backwoods OFF". I think it has the highest % of Deet available.

I've heard that if you put some vegetable oil in standing water mosquitos don't lay eggs there.

I've never tried it, but I think if I were in your position Bill I would give it a shot.

THnaks for all of your concern my lymie friends...I am still finding new rashes and it is still spreading..ugh..breathing is difficult and wondering what to do about this..and of course it is now the weekend..I really don't want to get scik again..ugh!

TRuthFinder I am toying with the idea that this is allergic..BOOMERANG the chiggers are a bit diferent aren't they?..I looked them up quickly..the bites look like bullseye large circles not small bites each is perfectly round and very itchy..

Bettyg, Andie, Human(hi!), Bill, Allie, Lymemomtoo I appreciete your understanding in thinking it could be reinfection from mosquito...your stories sound so familiar...

Jill E I am on abx at this time but not sure what I should switch to for this?...

groovy thanks for the tip about the toothpaste..next time I will try asap..hopefully I will never be bit agian...lots of cutter..was it bill that recomended it?..cutter will be my new best friend.

Anybody knmow what regimen I should be on now?...I am on zithro, mepron, septra and a bunch of herbals...is this adequate coverage?..

I just pmd you. I don't think it went through.

You started the Septra 3 days ago. That's when this started, is it not?

It certainly sounds like a reaction to me. I looked up Septra side effects.

It could be a side effect or a sulfa allergy.

I would definitely call dr! I think having started the new ABX, with the possibility of those side effects, I'd rateher be safe than sorry.

my bullseye rash took about a week to show off after tick bite. Doctor said it takes time to show.

and it didn't really itch, the skin was sensitive, but it looked pretty different to the rash I get after mosquito bites (that itches a lot).

Posted by daniella (Member # 6753) on :

yes AliG
i started the septra hours before this started...do oyu tihnk it is from that?

i have been on it before and never had this reaction..

i will read about septrA now to see...and check what it reacts with...really can't breath..ugh!

thnaks pals for your helping hand through this..

Daniella,
Have you called the doc?

(Maybe stop the Septra and take some Benedryl if you can in the meantime.)

If you can't breathe go to the emergency room, ok? Call 911 if you have to breathing is really important!

I get perfect red itchy spots from Sulfa drugs. definately an allergic reaction for me but has never been severe enough to affect breathing.

Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Posted by Bill ATL (Member # 7817) on :

Daniella...

I also became allergic to Sulfa-based abx...I had also taken them successfully before. My llmd wasn't all that suprised...it does happen.

I would develop a itchy/prickly sensation on my skin shortly after taking the Septra...You have to stop immediately...let your LLMD know.

If this does end up being the case for you (allergy to sulfa-based abx), you'll have to always remember it, and update your pharmacy profile, etc.

DAniella, I now vote allegic reaction!!! the blistering is a bad sign in that direction..

A few years ago I had really bad bronchitis..Was on an abx and cough syrup..Started to have blisters on my feet and they swelled and the swelling and red rash started going up.

Dr immediately took me off of abx and I continued with the cough syrup..I help to run a festival and the Dr came there to treat me..(Small town)..He put me on some steroids..

But never thought of something in the cough syrup doing this..He did not know of anything else that would help..

A friend got me an appt with another Dr on Monday and I drove myself..By the time I got there my right eye was swollen shut and my entire face was red. I was also having trouble with breathing..

Before the Dr even took and vitals, he gave me a shot of something..

My point is that it was all an allergic reaction..The cough med. had codene in it and I can never have it again..So most likely you are also having an allergic reaction.

Do not fool around this is dangerous..Be careful and you may need something stronger than benadryl..I know steroids are not recommended for lymies but maybe there is something that will work. lymemomtooo

Daniella,

I'm not a doctor and have not personally taken Septra. I have "googled" "emedicine septra side effects" and came across this:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, loss of appetite, headache, sun sensitivity may occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor.

This medication causes urine and possibly stools to turn orange-red in color. Do not be alarmed. This effect is temporary and will disappear when the medication is stopped.

Rarely, this medication can cause serious, even fatal, side effects such as a severe peeling skin rash known as Stevens- Johnson syndrome, blood disorders (e.g., agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia), or liver damage.

Seek immediate medical attention if you develop any of the following symptoms: skin rash or blisters, unusual fatigue, persistent sore throat or fever, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, abdominal pain.

In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I would highly recommend you call your doctor!

It's only a phone call to be safe as this could be a serious reaction to the medication.

PLEASE call your doctor, go to hospital or call 911 if side effects continue or worsen! [cussing]

I'd much rather hear that you felt foolish than to hear that something terrible happened to you, or even worse not hear from you again. [Frown]

Please stop torturing us all and get some help! It seems I'm not the only one worrying about you and we can't do it for you!!!

Let us know that you're OK after you take care of this!! [confused]

I would agree to a high probability of allergic reaction to your new medication. Difficulty breathing and hives are signs of a medication reaction.

You need to call your doctor tonight. He/She may have you try Benadryl first but if you are having a hard time breathing you may need epi too. Fluttering in chest with the above symptoms warrants an evaluation.

It is always best to have documentation of a drug allergy.

AliG, lymemomtoo, Bill, true, Imanurse..

I'm ok..THank you for your concern. I have stopped the septra. today will bew my third day without it..And the breathing has improved a little after getting much worse last night..

my babs sx are also flaring so it makes me wonder what this really is..

Anyway the rashes are still there and not itchy anymore and no new ones appearing..so I guess thats a good sign..

breathing is still not great but I am going to try to push through this. I took some bendryl last night and slept like a pup..so I am going to take another dose now and see if I am fixed up when I wake up..

I definately think I need an ekg and some heart studies sometime to really see what is going on in there for sure..but we all know this lyme stuff doesn't show up on tests..and do I really want to see all those ducks..

ugh..I won't go to an ER unless I am absolutely dying..I am convinced they don't have a clue what they are doing...mind you with that said if I can't breathe I will go, I will have to go...

And I put a call into my LLMD he should be calling back soon...

thanks my lyme pals for your support...love to each of you

Good morning Daniella,

I spoke with TC about you yesterday...this is one area that she is extremely interested in, as she has been trying to prove TBD associated bug bites from insects other than only ticks.

I do hope that you took that picture the others suggested? If not, then do it NOW, OK?

I am pleased that you are feeling a bit better, but lets not take any chances with this...

PLEASE call your LLMD and emphasize that this is an emergency situation.

It may be allergic, but it also may be infectious.

IF you do regress to a state of worse, please do seek medical help immediatly. Believe me, I understand the not wanting to do the ER thing...
but since you have made it through the weekend, you have other options.

Your local PCP
a walk-in clinic
Your LLMD if close enough
etc.

PLEASE use one of these options IF things get worse for you.

And keep us posted, please.

My best,
Melanie

Has anyone heard from Daniella?

She was supposed to go show Dr. the rashes & blisters yesterday. I haven't heard anything since.

This could be serious. [Frown]

I'm keeping her in my prayers. I hope everyone else who prays will too.

I hope we hear from her soon.
