Jake (20) and Jordan (15) have been taking Lyrica. We are seeing good results so far but we're cautiously optimistic.
Some background - Jake & Jordan have been ill since 1999 and probably since birth. Jordan has not been able to go to school on a regular basis for the past 6 years. Jake graduated in June of 2005 which was 1 year late.
Since starting Lyrica, Jake has enrolled in a community college. He is taking 2 computer programming classes. He has been to school for 1 week and doing well.
Jordan wants to take a science class at the school (1st year of high school) and the rest will be homebound. His school starts September 5th.
I really hope the Lyrica continues to work for them. It's the first positive change in a long time.

I've heard that's used like Neurontin for Neuropathy.

I assume there headaches are the area that's improved?
Any side effects from the Lyrica?

Yes, their headaches are improved. They seem much happier, are sleeping better and are interested in things. Before they were pretty much surviving.
Lyrica is supposed to have fewer side effects than Neurontin, Depakote and Topamax. We haven't seen any side effects so far.
They are taking 150 - 200 mg a day which is 1/2 of the maximum dose.

You may already know all this info, but with young boys you may need to reinforce the diet issues of no MSG or aspartame -- could negate the positive effects of the Lyrica.

I also take Lyrica, and am so greatful for it. I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet, and the pain was unbearable. I've been on it for a couple of months, along with Pamelor (Nortriptline) to keep the pain regulated through the night.
I have noticed that I need increased dosages every 6 weeks or so. The side effects that have affected me are: massive weight gain, constipation, trouble starting urination, hoarseness, and vision problems. They are secondary compared to the relief this drug has brought to me.
I am so glad it is working for your sons.
