Hi everyone,

This is a little gross, but we're all friends.

I recently started using the original Podi Patch detox foot pads. My LLMD has been encouraging me to do so for months.

I read many previous posts about this so knew to expect the Smokey, Stinky Barbeque odor the next morning.

But this odor lasts a long time! I washed my feet repeatedly the next day with soap, facial toner, etc. I know one poster mentioned using baking powder which I will buy and try. Maybe lemon or vinegar would help?

Of course I washed my socks afterwards, and even washed my sheets because the smokey odor lingers.

I skipped one night and even a couple of days later I think my feet still had some of the Podi Patch aroma.

Does anyone have a sure-fire way to extinguish the odor?

I just ordered the Heaven variation of Podi Patch which is supposed to be less aromatic. I also purchased the blue and gold HealthMarvels patches and will try them.

Yesterday, a neighborhood dog that I pet everyday on my walk actually barked ferociously at me! All I can think is that he didn't recognize me because I smelled like Podi Patches instead of like me!

I'll email Andreas at Podi Patches to see if there are any recommendations, but I thought I'd try you, my helpful Lyme friends, first - you always come through!

I don't like these stinkin' foot pads!

Jill

That's hysterical! Hope someone has the answer for you. I think vinegar, baking soda, and lemons are all good ideas!

good luck! [Razz]

One of my Lyme symptoms is olfactory sensitivity, so
the podi patches really had an effect on me. I also thought theynhelped, and I couldn't figure out what to do.

I did order the patches from health marvels. While they're less strong, the odor is also not as bad. There's still an odor, though.

I find wearing socks with them helps a little bit. It seems easier to get the smell out of fabrics than off my feet. I also ordered adhesive remover pads from a medical site (sorry, don't remember where exactly). That seemed to work pretty well to cut down on the smell.

I'll be anxious to hear what other people say, and I hope someone will find something that works. The smell doesn't seem to bother a lot of people, but I got to the point I couldn't stand it.

Chorophyll is supposed to be an odor neutralizer.

I wonder if the odor is actually in the body system, rather than just topical.

So, eating parsley or chorophyll, and perhaps a paste or sprig in your socks? No werewolf jokes, please....! That's garlic...

Or, there are herbal parsley extracts in eyedropper bottles.

Is 20 mule team borax (like what was used in diaper pails) a possibility for a foot soak? Have to be careful, as this can destroy skin if too strong. Maybe others have warnings about this.

I think it is baking soda, not powder, that is the neutralizer. Also, lemon zest (from peel) along with the lemon juice may add an extra.

There also are some odor neutralizer sprays that I have seen at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Actually, there is a fragrance by Bvgari (Bugari) that has a woodsy smokey base, with other top notes. Very Fallish fragrance, in my pre chemical sensitivity days! So, maybe an essential oil in cream to complement? ! (if you cant fight them, join them !).

These are all great ideas - thanks! I'll look into each of them and post if I have any successed.

Northstar, you're right, I meant baking soda.

The pads themselves have the odor, but I, too, am wondering if the odor then gets into the system and keeps detoxing out. It's the only thing I can think of as to why the odor lasts so long after the pad is off and feet/socks are washed.

Yes, Lyme has made my chemical sensitivities worse to odors, so that could be part of the issue, too.

Maybe I could just go work at a barbeque restaurant - I'd blend right in - and get health insurance, too!!

I read that one person who used the foot detox pads used a spray with orange oil, to neutralize the aroma.

You can buy cleaning soaps with orange oil or lemon oil....a little of this in a basin of water might do the trick.

I only tried the detox pads once. I didn't like the aroma, and I knew my husband was going to complain about it if he had to smell it every day.
Plus, the soles of my feet tingled for days after using it just once.

I also wonder about the honesty of the company.
One person who had her pads analyzed was told that mercury came out into the pad.

This is almost impossible from what I've read, because mercury is not excreted through the skin, it comes out through the kidneys, exiting the body through the urine, or the liver filters it out, and it's excreted via bile, in the digestive system.

This person was also told that they found asbestos in the pad.
Asbestos is not excreted through the skin.
If you inhale it, it stays in the lungs, eventually causing problems.
If you ingest it, it lodges in the digestive tract, and can cause cancer.

It's possible that my understanding of this is faulty.
I did read once that mercury needs to be specially packaged to prevent it from evaporating, when analyzing detox pads.
So maybe it can come out through the skin of the feet, but if it did, the lab should not have been able to find it, unless there was someway to keep it from evaporating between using it and measuring it.

Just some thoughts.
Carol

Editing to add that I'm not trying to be negative all the time, and I do not want to downgrade other people's experience with this product.

This is one of those things that I don't understand and can't quite figure out.
After many years, I've found that if I can't quite figure something out, it's often because I don't have all the information.

I know I didn't give the detox pads a fair chance by only using them once.
But yikes, it's difficult to get past that aroma.

Heh, that's also why I haven't done Dr. Zhang's protocol with the Allicin.
(I'm such a wimp.)

Carol,

Thanks for your thoughtful insights.

I've only used the pads for two days and they did turn dark brown.

But just out of curiosity, I took one of the original Podi Patch pads and one of the Heaven Podi Patch pads (I had one sample) and ran filtered water on them. They both turned brown - not quite as dark as mine had been but close.

So I'm wondering if any liquid, whether water, sweat, etc. would turn them brown, not necessarily toxins.

But many on Lymenet and my LLMD recommends them, so I'm trying to be open-minded.

I did send mine in to be analyzed and am awaiting the results.

And thanks, Scott, for your recommendation of the HealthMarvels pads. I do have them here and will try them next.

Thanks to all,
Jill

Hi Jill

I've been using the original podi patches for 2+ years now. Love them. They are the strongest out of all of them. I only need to use them 2-3 times/week now. Great sleep, feel great when I got up in the morning, joints felt better, and as an added bonus, zapped nighttime hot flashes. They are a mystery to me - how they work - and I usually have to have an explanation for everything I use. My LLMD recommended them too.

I've used the less strong ones (and less stinky ones) but I don't think they work as well (for me). I know a lot of people use the less stinky ones and love them. Your mileage may vary.

The smell got to me more in the summer time. You could not wash it off. I'd say by the 2nd day, I wouldn't smell it on my feet so much anymore, but would just come 'round to having to wear another pair. To me, the smell was worth it. I always had to warn people ahead of time if they were close to me.

Do tell us how you do, and what your results are. Good Luck.

BTW, I felt the benefits of wearing these from the very first time I wore them. I went into the shower the next morning, and I remember I could lean my head back with greater ease. My neck has always been a problem.

Take care,

Kelly

Kelly,

Thanks for such an inspiring testimonial. It makes me want to hang in there for awhile with this.

I wasn't planning to do the pads every night anyway, because I'm so sensitive to any detoxing. But I had no idea the odor would last a couple of days anyway!

I'm making a list of all the items you great people are suggesting to try to remove the odor. I'll use myself as a guinea pig for awhile, plus I'll try some of the other versions of pads, and then post my results.

Glad you are having such excellent results!

Jill

I wore the Podi Patches every night for a year. They helped me TREMENDOUSLY. Aches, pains, and even disabling herxes disappeared (which is why my LLMD asked me to start themn - to stop my horrible monthly herxing).

They were absolutely ghastly looking and literally oozing with stuff for many many months.

BTW - I've been off all abx for 1 yr and 10 months now and never been better. When I use the patches now, they are a light tea colored, so I guess I'm still quite good on detoxing.
The odor no longer lingers on me, nor does my bedroom stink of their odor. Must be related to your toxin level.

I encourage all to dig deep, smell like BBQ - good things do come in strange packages. [woohoo]

Podi-patches have given me more relief than anything else. They help me sleep better, have more energy, less tingling & stabbing pains, less brain fog, less vibrating in feet...

When I first used the original patches, the smell was overwhelming especially the first few nights. I was really sick at the time and my sense of smell was heightened and I still had chemical sensitivities. I did get a huge amount of relief despite the smell. Always wear thick socks with "originals". Other people didn't notice the smell.

Eventually I switched to Heaven Podi-patches when they strted selling them. I also tried various ebay patches like the BetterHealthGuy patches. The ebay patches are much weaker. When I'm feeling better I use them to keep costs down. I've been using the patches almost every night for a year & a half.

When I started feeling worse I decided to try Original Podi Patch again (approx one year after the first time). Amazingly the smell was nowhere near as bad. My chemical sensitivities are gone. The originals really do work the best so I use them in the winter when I can wear shoes & socks.

I experimented with ways to get rid of the odor. The best method I've found is a scrub brush & VINEGAR. First I wash my feet with soap and water and let them soak in the shower or tub. Then I pour on some vinegar and scrub with a nail brush. Rinse, repeat and the odor is nearly gone. No problem with shoes & socks. Sometimes I use a pumice stome too.

Once you are a regular customer, akg naturals send emails around holidays offering specials. I recently bought 3 months of Heaven & got 2 additional months free. It is worth it to get Podi patches. For a while I tried using 2 ebay patches on each foot. That still wasn't as good as one podipatch.

If I'm working from home I leave the patches on in the morning. I rotate the position from night to night, heel, ball of foot, arch. To get it to work on the arch I use tight socks or stuff a piece of cloth in my sock against the pad to hold it tight against the skin.

The pads always get dark but they smell less as I get less toxic. If I drink alcohol (occasionally) I can smell it in the pads.

If the smell is too much, try Heaven for a while.

Thank you, Julie and Hats, for your posts, as well. They are excellent testimonials.

I have lots of burning, tingling, vibrating nerve issues, as well as all kinds of other symptoms, so I'm hoping the pads will help.

I will try the vinegar and brush. I did use heavy socks the two times I tried them.

Hopefully the odor will reduce as the toxin level decreases. But it is tough with my chemical sensitivities - and I'm just worried that the odor may bother others I'm around. But I'll hang in there.

I do plan to rotate the location on the feet, again hoping it might help with some of the foot pain and burning (probably Bartonella).

Thanks so much,
Jill
