I'm having trouble sleeping, again. Over the last few years I've used melatonin, a variety of herbal combos, chinese herbs, and acupuncture.

Now, no longer have acupuncture coverage, and the chinese herbs aren't getting me into a deep enough, long enough sleep. The herbal combos didn't work too good, and the melatonin, even at small doses, gave me a hangover.

I'm falling asleep just fine. But I'm waking at 3:30 a.m, and/or 4:30 a.m., 5:30 a.m. Then, my mind is chattering, and if I do doze off, it's just not a restful sleep.

So my doctor would like me to try Zyprexa. It's an anti-psychotic, but she says if I use a very small dose just before bedtime, it will help to eliminate the "anxiety"/mind-chatter, and I will have a more restful sleep.

Has anyone here used it? Experiences? Recommendations?

Thanks a bunch.

My husband does not have lyme. He has bi-polar disorder. He takes a little zyprexa every day. It does keep the mind from racing. (It stops mania.)

If he still gets lots of racing thoughts, he just takes a wee bit more.

We think it is a great drug. It works for him in exactly 50 minutes.

We buy the smallest dose--2.5 mg and cut it up. You can cut it with a razor blade into many pieces.

If hubby takes too much, he sleeps all day. So, do your experiment when you don't have to go to work or any place else the next day.

He takes ambien to sleep at night. Have you tried that? There is a generic form, so it costs almost nothing now. It used to be very expensive when you had to buy the brand name.
