That is the question. I have been complaining for the last several weeks about what I have been suspecting is GERD or reflux. My reflux started really fast, it seemed over night actually, and it was while being on ABX for about 5 weeks, several months ago.

My symptoms were like this. Constantly needing to clear my throat feeling like something was draining out of my sinuses, but then maybe it was bubbling up from my stomach. Then I had a twitching or thumping senstation in my throat. I could make this twitching happen just by breathing very deep or by yawning. Strange, don't ya think?

I usually felt ok in the morning except for needing to clear the throat, but as the day wore on, the burning and twitching got worse.
There was a period of time that I thought it was actually my heart, but I could never detect from my pulse anything that matched what I was feeling in my throat or esophagus.

There were definetly things that made it worse that I would consume. Sugar, alcohol seems to, but then I like sweet girly drinks, if and when I drink which is not often. Also maybe carbs, but more so, things with yeast in them. They would send me off big time. Then things that you would think should bother a refluxing stomach didn't, like spicy food. I love chilis and they don't seem to bother me at all. I can eat bowls of very hot salsa no problemo.

Also when I would talk to people about my reflux, they would often ask how I was sleeping, because GERD seems to be worse at night. But I slept just fine, not irritation what so ever. I would always think, maybe it's gone, but by afternoon, I knew it was not.

I tried Prilosec and got major relief, but soon it didn't work. Talked to my doc and he gave me Nexium at night, and recommended Zantac during the day. It helped for a few days , but then it just kept getting worse.

When I saw my doctor a week or so ago, he also gave me a script for Diflucan. Since as usual I react so strongly, I started with 50 mgs every other day. Guess what? The irritation, thumping twitching has all decreased in a large way. It isn't gone completely, but it so much better!!!!

Anyone else have an experience like this or are they aware of having yeast in their esophagus? The burning had gotten to the point it was going from below my ribs, up into my throat, sometimes my ears, and the twitching was inside below my ribs to. Most of it is now gone.

Yep, sounds like yeast. Get your diet in order!!

I would also suggest staying away from dairy.

Candida diet and elimination:

Lyme symptoms list compared with yeast symptoms
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/021202.html

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements.
[e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]
================================

Glad you got the Diflucan!!!

Very timely...my daughter says the exact same thing. We are aggressively treating it as a yeast issue. She feels she has a constant lump in her throat, and a real sensitive stomach.

probably both. You're probably getting acid reflux because thats one way your body knows to kill fungus-drown it in acid.

Def. get the diet in check and water water water

I'm the same way-I can eat spicey food till the cows come home and it won't affect my tummy.

The 2 things that do:

ANYTHING processed and refined

eating carbs in the late afternoon-night

Hi jellybean [Smile]

Does sound like yeast but also GERD. The itching along with the pain sounds like yeast.I have had both & the symptoms are similar.

P.s. I have GERD & never did get the nightly symptoms. Or too much burping up acid. My reflux erosions are lower down my thoat. I was very surprised to get this diagnosis. My main symptom is nausea.

I also have had several upper GI yeast in esphogus & it hurt to swallow pills. My GI doc treated it with 2 weeks diflucan.

I would just like to add my GI Duck told me that taking any abx & laying down can burn your esophogus.

Could it be that you may have had both? The GERD & yeast?

good luck & hope you can feel better soon [group hug]

this is not medical advise, just my personal opinion

I do kind of think it might be both. I wonder if the yeast may be causing the valve to no close right, or the stomach and esophagus to spasm, causing stuff to reflux up.

As usual in reflux, they can tell you what is happening but no one ever tells you why it is happening. Why is the digestive tract spaming like that. Oh well, as usual we would just have to make sense of it ourselves.

Can you imagine where we would all be without the internet to talk to others about what we know or suspect?

Sounds like yeast. I am dealing with mine now. I had no idea I was so polluted. Fact is , since I started the uber strict diet I feel better than I have in weeks. As for the lump in the throat, sounds like what I call the "strangles'. My skin burning has dropped off a cliff in the last three days. but man o man do I wish for some carbs.

The more I think about this, the more I think yeast is a big problem I didn't know I had. There was a time when yeast was a major problem for me, like a yeast issue for 5 years straight, but that is gone and has really not been a problem that I was aware of.

I have had a problem with my sinuses though and I have wondered if I had yeast in my sinuses. I have a lot of puffiness around my eyes, and I can hear a squishing sound when I rub my eyes, like bubbles. I have a real problem with dry eyes, and so maybe this stuff is actually related to yeast.

When I take ABX, the burning in my eyes gets really bad. I always thought it was from die off, but maybe it is the yeast going wild. Then when I think about my current symptoms, I feel fine when sleeping, but the burning starts when I get up. Maybe that is because my sinuses start draining down my esophagus, flooding it with yeast.

The stuff I always need to clear from my throat always feels bubbly or foamy. Anyone else?

I have been on the Diflucan for several days, and as usual I feel cruddy. Headache around my eyes is an issue. My eyes are watery. My glands in my neck feel kind of swollen. My throat gets irritated, and my neck feels teneder all over.

I didn't take the Diflucan on Friday, because I had a 13 hour drive ahead of me alone and I had been feeling so bad. Well yesterday/Saturday, I felt good. A little achey by about 8 hours on the road, but I did make the whole thing at once, and by myself.

I took the Diflucan last nite when I arrive at destination, and now my head hurts. Teeth, and neck hurt. Feeling rather sick to my stomach too. Ears itch and sinuses are draining like crazy.

I think I have got something major in my sinuses and I am even wondering if this could be an explanation for my constant tachycardia?

Jelly...
You do herx while riding yourself of the yeast.

The on off of a yeast med will make you herx, just like the on off of Lyme meds.

I am voting alone the line of yeast as the others.

Diet - Diet - Diet, it's so very important.

The yeast can be in any area that you have mucus - like the sinunis (sp). I have it in my blood stream - I had my blood tested as well as my stool - both postive.

For the first time in years I am making the yeast diet religoun. I feel better now than I have in a long , long, time. I am gob smacked amazed by it.

I am having herxy like issues going on too. I will stay on the uber strict another week and then start to slowly add complex carbs. I am not having a hard time sticking to it at this time as its like being high I feel so good!! I have a Pavlovian thingy going on.

My wardrobe is liking it too. I had the bags under my eyes too and they are going away now. So are some of my food sensitivities. Man, I should have known better, how dense of me, doink!

Just my opinion, I'm beginning to think that
the yeast from the antibiotics causes the Gerd
