All b/c of the ABX syndrome. Problem is, I'm starting a new regimen in two weeks on orals after IV and the same thing will happen. [Frown]

This is going to get very expensive. I literally woke up and had brown stained teeth at the gumline.

Hygenist thinks I'll have to come every month if I want them clean.

I've tried buying a sonic toothbrush, using hydrogen peroxide, Listerine White, whitening strips. They just don't work.

I feel like a caveman when I talk and should grunt and scratch myself in business meetings. LOL

Which abx are you taking?? I took them for 4 yrs straight and never had any trouble.

Is your diet clean? No starchy foods or sugar? No cokes?? Can you trace it to one particular abx??

My teeth are stained from the abx too.

Some where much worse than others.

My current regimen doesnt seem to be causing the tooth staining of others like amoxy.

My teeth were so bad at certain points when I went in to have them clean they swore I was a smoker...

And I never had been... not quite the complete art chic cliche (just dressed in all black with my black beret)

I have found that total control whitening and total luminous are the best toothpastes.

And the toothbrush that helped me the most was colgates whitening... it has a little rubber thing in the center.

Best wishes

try pearl drops tooth paste for smokers
it is more abrasive along with a sonic tooth
brush should remove most stain

also follow with colgate total ,second brushing,
will keep things from sticking to
teeth for many hours between brushing.

3% peroxide that you can buy in stores is
not strong enough to remove stain.
you need a 20 to 30% perioxide to remove
and whiten teeth.

the listerine with whitener in the opaque
white bottle also whitens fairly well but does
not remove stains.

avoid staining foods, coffee,coke ,pepsi,
berries, beets, anything with alot of
extra dye, soda, teas etc.

I have been so upset about this, did not even think about posting for information. It seemed
to happen so quickly within 4 weeks of starting
amoxicillin my teeth started turning Brown! like
Azure said some are much worse than others.

I did Zoom whitenening a few months back and my teeth were looking really good. Now What?

I guess the good news is they can be cleaned?

What is the chemistry that causes this? does
anybody know?

I'm getting really good results on the Amoxy so
I dont want to switch to another antibiotic.
Ugghh...

I have the same problem with both staining and plaque build up. I asked my LLMD, who also has Lyme disease herself about it today. She was not willing to attribute it to one particular abx, rather just a change in oral flora as a result of abx. (I'm currently on Zith and Minocycline as well as Plaquenil, Malarone, and Artemisinin.) She said the same thing happened to her for a period of time and then cleared up, apparently unrelated to any change in abx.

Back to the dentist next week for a cleaning, at which point I'm going to try oil pulling again and some of the toothpaste people recommended here. For the moment, it seems like a lost cause.

Brushing with baking soda works great for me. Also, as mentioned, clean diet and taking probiotics is key.

I make a paste with baking soda and a little hydrogen peroxide and this seems to help a bit.

I find plaque builds up so much faster now ;(

I second the oil pulling suggestion

I had the same thing...discovered that using a water pik, which is just a miniature of a power washer like you clean your driveway with, does the trick.

Plus even if you brush and floss yourself into a stupor you won't believe the amount of bacteria-laden vile crud you dislodge from your mouth, especially in the back.

I only have to have my teeth cleaned once or maybe twice a year now, and little staining. Plus my joints hurt much less which may very well be related.
