I am going back to my doctor today because she took me off Ketek again (I am having bad side affects).

I have taken Flagyl also with problems. I don't think she is super educated on LYME. She is studying and learning as she goes.

Can anyone else please suggest what antibiotic I should ask for next? I was thinking Biaxin or Zithromax.

I can't take penicillins, I am allergic. [shake]

Any suggestions???? Thanks for the help!

Kim,

What are the side effects? Are you sure they are side effects and not a herx reaction? Is it possible you just need to cut back on the doseage to reduce a herx?

Obviously, if the Ketek reaction is elevated liver enzymes, you want to be off it ASAP.

Well, how can I say this tastefully, right after I started on Ketek I started my menstrual cycle and didn't stop.

It happened for over a month so I called the doctor and she said to get off.

Has anyone else had weird reactions like this?

When I am on Ketek, my aches and pains do tend to get relief so I hate that I have to get off of it.

If you have been diagnosed with Lyme, and you feel better on abx. is it possible you need something that will hit the spirochete form, and possibly co-infections such as ehrlichiosis? Flagyl hits the non-cell wall form of Lyme. penetrates the joints and crosses the brain barrier where the non-cell walled form hangs out. Won't cure the "keets". Docxycline works well initialy, or it's newest version Minocycline. They stop the "keets" from replicating- so it takes the "cyclines" longer to kill out the disease. A study by Donata (I'm citing a medically published study here folks) in Boston cited relief for Lyme patients with long term use of Tetracycline. But tetra has some side effects albeit relatively inexpensive (calcium issues).Doxycyline does not have those side effects. Penicillian kills the "keets" on contact. Have you tried third generation penicillian. Alot of people can tollerate them when they can't amoxicillian or penicillian. I'm not a doc. just researched in an effort to get some relief. Hope you get to feeling better.

I started Primaxin, and I have been having a same/similar reaction. It has been about 3 weeks.

I was thinking (hoping) it was not a side effect and more like an ablution effect.

Also, this was a problem once for me a year and a half ago before abx and it lasted 43 days. So, I am going to wait it out a little longer and hope it abates. I like to think that it is just killing all those bugs so that one day I can have children (it makes me feel better)

Good luck,

gambler

Biaxn and Zith are both very good. I credit much of my success to a year and a half of Biaxin.

Just so you know lyme can mess with your cycles...

It did the opposite for me... I went 9 months without one ..finally went to the dr and had to take medicine to bring it back.

have you been tested for coinfections?

Because if you have coinfections you need specific abx to treat them.
