I requested my blot results which my primary said were negative.

LYME AB IGG BY WB:
P93 AB - absent
P66 AB - absent
P58 AB - absent
P45 AB - absent
P41 AB - present
P39 AB - absent
P30 AB - absent
P28 AB - absent
P23 AB - absent
P18 AB - absent

Lyme interpretation: negative (pos = 5 of the following borrellia-specific bands: 18, 23, 28, 30, 39, 41, 45, 58, 66 and 93)

LYME AB IGM BY WB:
P41 AB - absent
P39 AB - absent
P23 AB - absent

Lyme interpretation: negative (pos = 2 of the following bands: 23, 39 or 41)

Should I request antibiotics asap since I believe I'm symptomatic despite what my primary says from the test results? I've been having symptoms for two weeks now that seem to be getting worse.

Thanks for any help/info!

23 and 39 on the IgM are specific. It would lead me to more investigations, possible treatment, and coinfection testing.

Though it was not clear if you meant those were + or not.

does the P41 present mean anything? From Dr. C's results that I found on here (from 2000 though) it says that if the patient has symptoms suspicious for borreliosis and has one of the follow bands, of which P41 is included) then there is a high probability that the patient has borreliosis. Yet further on in the updated section in 2005, P41 isn't included as significant, so I'm confused...

As for P23 and P29 I'm not sure what you mean by specific? Does that mean if these aren't positive, then I'm ok? I don't have +/- indications on the testing sheet. I wasn't tested for bands 31-34 either so I guess they used the CDC guidelines.

41 is not an indication of Lyme disease. If you have only 41, no + and no IND and had the test done by a reputable lab like IGeneX (sounds like you did not since they did not test 31 and 34), then Lyme may not be the issue.

If you feel that it is possible, IGeneX WB would be the appropriate next step IMO.

Twink,

What lab was used for the WB test?

Tic

LYME AB IGM BY WB:
P41 AB - absent
P39 AB - absent
P23 AB - absent

That is not an Igenex test, for sure...only three bands tested for the IgM???

I know that band 41 can be significant and for some Lyme patients they began with only that band. After several weeks or months on abx, more bands showed up.

You really won't know very much until you get tested with a quality lab, one that tests for all the bands.

It was just a local lab. I am going to push my primary to sign for the Igenex test. He doesn't believe I have lyme saying I'm asymptomatic which is ridiculous as I have numerous lyme symptoms!!! He seems way behind the times, saying I didn't have a rash and that the numbness/tingling is usually on one side of the body, and I don't have palsy or anything.

Hi there Twink
I think you should consider finding a LLMD or at the very least a doctor that has not already formed a strong opinion on your illness/ or lack of illness. It seems like you are going to be fighting an uphill battle with your current duck. Its time for a change.

You can also use MDL for testing, they are another excellent lab, and I had very good results through them and personally liked them better than Igenex, I have used both for testing and coinfections. I hope you can get the testing done properly.Take care

It may or may not be lyme, you need to see an LLMD.

You wasted your money at that lab. Get Igenex or MDL
