I recieved the results of some blood work from MDL labs.
Lyme Disease:
* Positive C6 Peptide by ELISA (1.46).
* Negative IgG/IgM by ELISA (.41).
* Negative by PCR.
* Negative by Western Blot (I just had the 41 band).
Babesia Microti:
* Positive IgG by ELISA (1.16).
* Negative by PCR.
Well, I don't know what to make of the Lyme disease results. I know the C6 peptide is supposed to be more specific than the Western Blot. What do you guys think?
I do have signs and symptoms of Lyme disease, but I guess it could be something else. My symptoms started off slow and through the years grew worse.

With a positive C6 and evidence of Babesia, I would personally move forward with treating for LD and with symptoms, it seems pretty clear.

My only positive band was 41. I definitely have Lyme disease as evidenced by my response to treatment with antibiotics. What Steve said.

Though, I don't see how the C6 Peptide can be positive and the regular ELISA be negative?
I live in Tennessee, and I hear on this board that there are no good lyme doctors. Who is this Dr. C. everyone talks about?
I did PM a few people, as someone mentioned that there is a doc close to Nashville that works with Dr. C. That would be a closer drive for me than out of state.
Oh, and do you guys ever wake up at night cause your hands go numb? Or other parts of your body?
I have heard criticism of the Western Blot lyme test. I know there is a special Western Blot test specifically for lyme disease.

Completely agree with that, I could see an ELISA being positive and a C6 negative but not the other way around.
The only thing I can think of is maybe I could be infected with an uncommon strain of the Borrelia Burgdorferi. It is my understanding that the regular ELISA and Western Blot only look at ONE strain. Whereas, the C6 Peptide ELISA is supposed to look at a certain piece that is common with ALL strains of Borrelia Burgdorferi.
Does it look like I could get insurance to pay for treatment with a positive C6 Peptide and a negative Western Blot? My insurance is Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee.
And can someone PM me so I can find out who Dr. C. is?

Jason, alls there is to know about the C6 Peptide that is to know on lymenet can be found by doing a search, that's what I did and truth is what does anyone know about any of the tests done on us for Lyme and co-infections.
My LLMD just ran tests on me right before Thanksgiving to see where everything stands after being on antibiotics for a while and also, I had just starting going to him because my first LLMD just retired.
He did do a C6 peptide and he was pleased to see that the numbers dropped from 5.68 down to 1.96. He told me that "we're not out of the woods yet, but we're headed that way". Sooooo that tells me that the treatment I was doing is working for me.
I typed in C6 Peptide into the search and some threads came up but I guess it's just like everything else, it's different results with different people.
I found the same thing true when trying to find out about CD-57 Test. Alot of people their Docs didn't even do that test. Compared to most lymies my CD-57 was off the charts at 391. So then I started wondering what the hell was going on there but I guess little is known. It's alot of trial and error. If something is working then you know you're on the right track. If it's not then you go to plan b.
I have a LLMD that I trust but I feel I learn just as much from reading the posts here.
So sorry I couldn't be more help.
Also, I had 6548 bands on my WB Test, or in other words a bazillion bands, proving there was no question that I had Lyme.

Thanks. Yeah, I did search and didn't come up with much.
I had 1.46 on my Lyme C6 Peptide test. Though, I came up negative for the WB for Lyme through MDL. I'm hoping Dr. C will go ahead and treat me for Lyme as I have a positive C6 Peptide, even though the WB was negative.
I don't see how one could get a false positive C6 Peptide as it is a really specific test.

reasons why you can still have lyme and test negative:
"14. Concomitant infection with babesia may cause immunosuppression"
I did test positive for babesia microti. If that causes immunosuppression, then that could explain why I developed Shingles 3 years ago. That is a reactivation of the Chicken Pox virus.
I plan on getting and appointment with Dr. C soon.
