I was recently diagnosed with candida and Im really new to this. I was diagnosed by a fantastic allergist in London that has mixed me up a candida vacine to take twice daily and has issued me with some bumper vit pills, magnesium and zinc. Additionally I am taking a mix that he prepared of the anti fungals mixed with caprilic acid. I gave up sugars on the same day (last fri)caffine, alcohol and even though he only advised me to give up refined sugars I am looking into the part diet plays in candidas destruction!!!!!!! Im really confused as my symptoms were undetectable ie I went to him to help me with pms which is awful and he has given me another vaccine to help with that, but he also checked me for candida and foun high levels within me.. how serious can candida be apart feeling hung over all the time? And how comes my doctor was so chilled out about bread consumption, at the stage of detox and clearance of the candida in my gut? He said at the stage my system is so out of balance the food i eat is just fermenting and im not absorbing any vitamins, so for a month all i have to worry about is not feeding the candida and shedding it... Im looking forward to the flat stomach Ive been promised, however being on 6th day of detox my skin has broken out and I feel like crap, is this normal.. am I a sugar junkie.. I feel like a crap whore to be honest.... Im finding it really hard!

Hi Vikki,

Sorry, I really have a hard time reading block print (most Chronic lymies do)

But I think form your topic you need help on what to take to help fight yeast? Ok, So this is what I have done that has helped....

Do Not eat anything that contains:

yeast
white/wheat flour
sugar
corn syrup
mushrooms (fungus)
peanuts (I can tolerate these once in awhile)

Also things I take to kill Canadia:

Refrigerated Acidophilus (make sure it comes to the store on ref. trucks and is in the Billions)
Capylic Acid
Pau D' Arco
Grapefruit Seed Extract
Oil of Oregano
Olive leaf extract
Nystatin (prescription)

If you have alot of Candidia you can have die-off when taking these which can cause alot of symptoms.

Also I should say.... I do eat some fruit in moderation because of the benefits of fiber and antioxidants.

Hope this has helped you,
Lisi

Hi SV,
Sorry you're having Candida problems. Sorry to break the news but you simply can't be a sugar junkie anymore, unless you're OK with feeling miserable, worse than miserable & not getting better.

You'll need to cut out sugar and add healthy not sugary foods to your diet. Once you get off the sugar you won't crave it anymore, really!!!

There is lots of good info at www.wholeapproach.com

The first week is the toughest but if your yeast is as bad as mine was I know you'll have strong motivation to succeed.

Candida somehow interacts with Lyme- there's one weird treatment protocol for Lyme, the Schardt Protocol if I remember right, which fights the lyme by prescribing a long bout of antifungal medication.

Both candida and Lyme depress your immune system, so keeping the candida down can help your body fight the Lyme better (I'm assuming that if you posted here you're also treating Lyme).

It's really hard to deal with for some people!

I only keep yeast at bay by staying away from white sugar, white flour, potatoes and anything that has a glycemic index to it!!!

Atkins diet helped a great deal to feel better and get rid of sugar cravings.

Think sugar, think poison!

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements.
[e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]
