My 5 year old daughter has been complaining of various aches, pains, etc. since I was dx with Lyme.

At first I believed she was repeating things that she has heard or seen as she is known to do that.

She was dx. with bacterial pneumonia last week. Has been on omnicef for 9 days.

Omnicef does change her behavior from a nice, sweet girl to a yelling, screaming, angry little girl.

She keeps telling me that different body parts hurt. I have to admit I was thinking that she is complaining for attention, but now I am getting very concerned.

She woke me up this am to tell me her ears hurt. She shouldn't have an ear infection as she is still on antibiotics. She also had 3 rocephin shots last week.

My husband has a positive Elisa. Waiting for test kit from Igenex for him.

We did see a tick crawling on my daughter in July of last year, but it wasn't embedded or engorged.

Okay...Now I am scared. I suppose this is a silly question.....I really think I should have her tested.

What do you think?

It is so hard to seperate feigned symptoms from pneumonia from what may be Lyme.

I should add that they would probably have to sedate her to get blood from her. It took 3 adults to hold her down for the rocephin shots.

Thank you for your consideration and any responses are welcome and appreciated.

One Nervous and Guilty Feeling Mom,

Um, I would just think that whatever bacteria was causing lung problems was elsewhere in her body at this point!!! Tuberculosis causes problems in the lungs but it is throughout the body as well!!! I would not call the symptoms feigned because it seems like she is Herxing- unless you have reason to believe she is a liar. I would just treat her for the pneumonia and then see how she is- she may be fine. It may be this bacteria, not Lyme at all. There are many htings out there!!!

Very sincerely,
Mom of a 9 year old in remission with Lyme
& non-Lymie 2 year old,
Best wishes,
Sarah

If it were me I would test.

I did. All 4 of my kids are positive.

Have the lab use a butterfly (winged tip needle) and use numbing cream before the draw.

I wouldn't waste my time with an elisa on her, I would get it sent to IGeneX.

It sounds like she is herxing. My 6 year old daughter always complains of pain in her legs. Abx don't help it but Magnesium does. Most with lyme are so deficient.

Don't forget coinfections, heavy metals, and parasites.

Best wishes, lyme x 9

And I hope she gets to feeling better. My oldest boy frequently gets Pneumonia. He has lyme, rmsf, Bart, myco, and I think one more. Can't remember right now.

I know it's hard with kids. I agree, get her tested.

Thanks for the responses. I really appreciate everybody's opinion.

We are going back to the pediatrician this afternoon as her ear really hurts her.

I never thought of her reaction to meds as a herx....but now......I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I will ask the pediatrician if she is willing to draw via Igenex. If not, will call my LLMD and see if I can get her in with me or sooner.

Thanks again for the replies. I guess I should get my other child tested as well (He's 3).

I think that all of our problems stem from living outside for 34 days after Katrina. So much debris (trees down, branches, etc.), and we live in the country.

Thanks again.

Hi Geneal,

my 6 year old has positive Bowen Test. She also has frequent lung problems, aches and pains and turns into a green eyed monster when on ABX.
She was born sick, I was already sick when I was pregnant with her.

Get her tested and boost the immune system. Just my thought.

Good luck,

Sonja

hi Geneal-

sounds like you're going to get her tested, which is great.

IMO, children that young don't make symptoms/pretend to be ill in any consistent way if at all. i have to beg my 4 1/2 son to tell me what's wrong if i see something is off.

can't imagine your Katrina ordeal- sounds like hell. were you able to get the kids checked out afterwards?

dilly
