I loved Ceftin. However the generic white pills worked the best not the blue pills.

I have been on Ceftin off and on for 2 years. I still herx with it when I restart it so I know its still working.

My only problem with it is that Ceftin is really bad about creating yeast overgrowth. I take 100 billion units of various strains of probiotics daily.

Even with that I have to take diflucan weekly.I have improved about 50% so far. I have also pulsed Minocycline, Levaquin,Artemisinin. Also take lots of supplements. I hope you get good results from Ceftin!

Lesley,

I was on it since late August although I can't say that I made much progress at all on it, but did not get worse at least. Nor do I think I herxed.

Just last weekend I had an allergic reaction to it though, after all that time, and that's the end of all Cephalosporins and Penicillins for me.

Now I am going to be on Minocycline and Biaxin instead.

Hope you get more replies.

I had been infected for 9 years prior to being diagnosed and starting antibiotics, so my bacterial load was very high.

My LLMD started me on generic Ceftin in June, 2004. I ramped up the dosage but still had a pretty nasty herx-reaction. At 28 days exactly, my herx was so severe I ended up in the ER.

My second herx 28 days later wasn't quite as nasty, but it was still pretty awful, as I recall. But I persisted with the drug.

And I slowly and steadily began to improve.

I'm still on ceftin, along with rifampin for Bart and tindimax for the cystic form of the bacteria. I know some LLMDs shift abx, but mine seems to hold the belief that if a medication is continuing to work, there's no reason to stop it.

At this point, I've recovered about 80% and am back to work fulltime.

For me, it's been a lifesaver!

Hope it gives you the same sort of result!

anyone taking this have bad GI consequences i.e. Diarrhea?

I take tons of acidolphilus--Metagenics powder 20 billion in 3 divided doses, florastor 2 per day and Theralac 2 per day.

I have taken just about all the other abx--doxy, tetra, zith, biaxin, tini, bicillin and never had this problem even on lower doses of the acidolphilus.

any suggestions??

I figured the pros out there might have some suggestions i haven't heard. I will, or course, call my doc on Monday. I have also halted the abx for the weekend--my normal routine prior to the ceftin.

I have been put on this twice a day. I don't know how long I've had lyme but believe I got it when I moved to Texas in 1982 so untreated until 2006.

Regarding the Ceftin, I felt terrible at day four. I've now been on it for one week and my neck is killing me. It feels like cramps and I have a terrible headache. From what I have read, this may be a herx.

I didn't know I could herx so fast but everyone says you can. The faster you herx, the more the antibiotic is working -- at least that's what I think is true.

So for me, it seems to be working. At least the horrble eye twitching is lessening and that's worth it.

I hope I can stay on it. The doctor only gave me enough for about six months and then he says he wants to switch to amoxy. He says you don't want to get used to one drug -- the little devils become immune to one, so you want to keep switching. Well, at least, I think it sounds good....

I've been on oral generic ceftin for 11 months, now I'm doing IV Rocehpin which may be a form of Ceftin-but don't quote me on that.

so far so good, nothing outragous. Minocycline knocked me out. and Flagyl has been rough. But Ceftin and Doxy have been doable.

Good Luck,
Carol

I took it for awhile.
If it bothers your tunmmy, eat when you take it.
I took 3,000 mg of Ceftin, with 2,000 mg Biaxin, plus Bicillin and then Flagyl and HBO. It worked well! [Smile]

thanks for the heads up about eating with the abx. I had been doing that. It wasn't the tummy that was a problem, it was the lower GI part.

But it turns out that there has been a "bug" going around that has caused alot of the same problems in the GI area.

I just stopped all abx for the last 3 days and things did not "right" themselves even with all the probiotics I've been taking so I am assuming it wasn't the ABX but the "bug. If things don't settle down in anther day or two I will call the LLMD.

Still it is sooo nice to have the people on this board to run a quick "what have you done" when you are just not sure what to do. so thanks again.
