Jim,

Can you be exact about the andro and knotweed that has worked for you? I know you make your own capsules .

Do you use the standardized knotweed(resveratrol) by Source Naturals? Some members here are having problems with the resveratrol
that is standardized by Source Naturals. Since you had no problems with side effects, I am wondering if your herb was different somehow ; esp since you took so much with no problem .

Which form of andrographis are you taking now ?
Are you sure it is standarized ?

These herbs may be easier to tolerate if the whole herb is taken, rather than an isolate .
Perhaps that is why you had no side effects .
I am just trying to figure out what may be different for everyone trying the herb protocol .

Thanks ( always ) for sharing your experience !

I'm doing the Source Naturals stuff with no problem, at the maximum doses right now. I'm the one with the practically herx-free Lyme experience though, even when I first started treating it via antibiotics- some of which I credit to a LOT of detoxification protocols as well as the treatments themselves.

Perhaps that's some of the difference in how different people experience the side effects/herxes- either a few of us are taking more detox stuff than those who are miserable, or our liver/elimination systems work better than that of others who have trouble getting rid of toxins.

just a 'pulled it out of thin air' theory, not backed by anything.

Maria,
I think your theory about the liver may be on target . Some of us probably have sluggish detx mechanisms ( there is a cytochrome that is related to this) .

As far as some of the emotional ups and downs some oof the ladies are reporting , that may be related to the resveratrol affecting hormone levels .

Thank you for sharing , Maria!

Jim Bob, I have another question too.

I am having chronic chest congestion with thick mucous . I have taken soo much Mucinex that I am tired of popping the blue pills to thin the mucous . I feel like I have a chest infection almost always if I stop the mucinex .

Is there any herb that thins mucous other than guaifenisen?

I tried red root tincture and it seems to make the problem much worse EVERY time I start it again. For me it is probably anticholergenic

I could use suggestions .

What herbs help you with your asthma?

I am open to feedback from anyone. Thanks Annxyz

Yes, I encapsulate my own. I buy ALL my herb from 1st Chinese Herbs now. THEY do NOT handle Source Naturals nor Raintree as far as I know.

I use the 5:1 concentrate from Plum Flower. However I just reported a couple of days ago on a thread that I am going to switch over to Plum Flower's WHOLE HERB as soon as I run out of the concentrate. And see what happens. I DID USE source Naturals for ONE BOTTLE of herbs. And source Naturals for a bottle of Andrographis capsules. Prior to that I used 5 bottles of andro TABLETS which I could not stand as they were so bitter.

I am taking WHOLE HERB Andrographis also, right now and have been ever since I started encapsulating my own. So I guess it is not standardized. HOW do you standardize something? I imagine you would have to MODIFY it somehow, right? Maybe that will get it work faster, and maybe not. And I have to ask: "to WHOSE standards?". I like the creator's standards better than man's.

I believe you hit the nail on the head. The whole herbs are "natural" food. NOT adulterated. We have wonderfully designed bodies. IF we leave them alone, they can pretty much pick out what we need from our foodstuffs.

I DO take some herbs for my asthma. However, I find that the Sali-Pipe, (salt pipe), that I got from England works the best. When I got real bad about a year and a half ago, my chest got very painful 24/7, and I was getting scared that maybe I had cancer or something. (I have had asthma since 1987). My asthma never acted like this before. I went to my doctor and told him and all he did was give me another couple asthma inhalers. THESE do NO GOOD at all. But I found out about the Sali-Pipe and ordered it and within two weeks the pain was gone.

I don't use it every day any more, just when the pain starts to come back again. Maybe I should use it every day, then maybe it won't come back at all, I don't know.

I haven't had any problems that I know of from Red Root. It does it's job on my lymph system.

I would get off the abx or any other synthetics the ducks have prescribed for you and try these natural remedies and see if they don't work a whole lot better.

What herbs help you with your asthma?

##
I take Cat's Claw, Stephania Root, Sarsaparilla for Asthma. Along with the Sali-Pipe.

Thank you very much Jim.

I know you have probably answered these questions way too many times, so I appreciate your patience !

There were others who had used the whole herb
cat's claw with good results and no problems. I have to wonder if the whole herb is easier for our bodies to assimilate .

Now I think I understand how you seemed to be able to tolerate such seemingly high doses of the herbs without herxing to death like the rest of us.

Most of us on the standardized andro and resveratrol are flat on our faces with three or four tablets of the standarized andro .

In one of your earlier posts , you mentioned that your asthma was much better and that you did not need your inhaler so much .

I am having chronic chest congestion, living on mucinex to thin the mucous . If I stop it my chest starts hurting . What herbs helped you with your asthma?

I hope you are gaining strength and feeling beteer all of the time.
Thanks for your help .

The hormone levels are definately being affected for me. Is it the s/n resveratrol? I am guessing it is. I just had a 15 day long 'cycle' ... I think that means my hormones are messed up.

After about a year of trying various things, I had just begun to feel like I'd gotten the hormones/endochrine system back on track. And then I had to go and try to address the infection itself!

I guess I had to do it, but JimBob's approach is beginning to look more and more attractive.

I'm going to butt in here to say how much N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) has helped me with thick mucous. NAC isn't an herb, it's an amino acid.

It boosts gluthionine (which is vital for the immune), chelates heavy metals, serves as an anti-oxidant, and is probably the most helpfull supplement I've found for making my mucous more thin.

I'd say it's worth a try. Doses range from 300-1200mg. I usually take a cap (650mg) or two a day.

[URL=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetylcysteine#Mucolytic_therapy]Here's some info on it's properties (specifically it's "mucus dissolving" ones.)

Catalyst ,
Thanks for the reminder . I slacked off taking my NAC several months ago, and that is exactly why I am having infections and thick mucous . I just purchased some and will start again. I know it increases glutathione , but did not realize it thinned mucous .

I appreciate the reminder. Maybe I can quit living on Mucinex.

Ruth, just a comment on your long cycle.

During all my lyme disease, I got longer periods (or more spotting). I lost more blood, that was CLEAR.

I took Knotweed standardized (level 1 protocol) for a while, but I guess, not even 3 months, less than that. Nothing changed on my periods.

I've been to the gynecologist, who didn't see anything strange with my hormones either (but she didnt' test, she just said she could see in my symptoms/ skin appearance).

Recently, I re-started knotweed. Recently, most of my lyme symptoms have disappeared too. Together with them, my period problems. And I'm on knotweed!

My naturopath believes that our bodies try to excrete metals (and probably toxins) by all ways it can. Spotting MORE or longer for her is a normal lyme symptom. She looked at me as if it would be strange if I had lyme and detoxing metals and didn't spot more than usual... I had to spot more, according to her 'logic'.

Whether she's right or not, it seems my cycle and duration of spotting are okay now that lyme seems to be gone (or almost), even with my daily intake of knotweed (even though I take very little).

On standardized andrographis:

That's the form of andrographis Buhner mostly recommend in his book. With 10% andrographolides.

I guess that means that the parts of herb they chose had at least 10% andrographolides, by test. Not that the herb is adulterated or so. In my 'understanding'. I may be wrong.

That's what I took for 13 months, in low doses.

I guess there's no danger in taking NON standardized form, just the fact that you may be getting a less stronger herb/ less herxes. Which may be a GOOD thing in the end!!

Selma, I tend to agree with you. I think it is especially good for those who are having so much trouble taking it.

Annxyz:

I have only used my 3-M inhaler about 3 or 4 times, if even that, in the past 15 months. I did have that pain in the chest that inhalers did nothing for, neither did the herbs it seemed, but the Sali-Pipe did wonders.

I have carried my inhaler in my pocket for well over a year without using it more than once. As a matter of fact I have been thinking of just not carrying it any more.

Like I have reported, I have used the Sali-Pipe only occasionally the past few months. WHEN I do, the pain I do have goes away, usually.

I found out about the Sali-Pipe on this list. I was skeptical at first, but I figured what did I have to lose? I think it cost me $58.00; including shipping. One of my best ever investments. No kidding. Others here could tell you the same thing IF they ever post anymore. I strongly recommend it to you IF you are having any kind of bronchial problems.

And NO, you are NOT going to HERX on it. [Big Grin]

Aha, I was the one who encouraged Jim to try the salt pipe.
I'm glad he's had such good results with it.

I've recommended it to a number of others, and most of the time the advice was disregarded.
(My mom and my sis won't listen either.)

Thanks Selma for the reminder about heavy spotting having a possible connection to the body utilizing the menstral flow to dump toxins. I've been ever so regular with no spotting for most of my life until about six months ago.

So, I will reserve judgment about the s/n's resveratrol being the cause of what seemed like a very short cycle. And now, based on a.m. temperatures, may have been very heavy pre-ovulation 'spotting.'

I appreciate all of the different perspectives and contributions on this forum. You guys help me 'think' better! The Sali-Pipe looks really interesting too!

Thanks Carol. I had written to so many in the beginning, I couldn't remember who said what. But it is like a miracle too.

Tell your mother and sister I think they are stupid. WHAT have they got to lose? A few dollars at most. It can't harm you and it SURE HELPS ME! No, if or ands or buts about it.

It TRULY WORKS!

It is a lot more than interesting. It is the REAL DEAL. I would not say it if it wasn't so. I have NO affiliation with those that sell it, and even IF I did, I would never lie about something just to sell it.

I have found NO herb and NO mainstream medicine that works anywhere's as good as the Sali-Pipe does for Asthma and Bronchitis.

They don't have to believe me, let them keep suffering, I don't care. I have said it, so it is off my shoulders.

I got to thinking, IF you do call them stupid, they may think you are even MORE off the deep end. So, while we can think it, I guess tact might be better, cause you can even hit SOME people right between the eyes with something and the still can't see it.
