Hi Everyone,
Can someone explain med pulsing to me. I am herxing so bad and think maybe I should back off the abx a day or two. My LLMD had mentioned something like that at last visit. Gosh, the pain is unbearable....and I thought labor was bad! Thanks, Cathy

Hi Cathy-

When my son herxed very badly, I stopped abx for 1-2 days, per our llmd's suggestion. When 2 Aleve 2 times a day didn't touch the pain, we stopped abx. When he could get out of bed and watch tv I started agin. Mean, mean mom.

It used to be that one "stayed on abx no matter what" but that seemd to have changed the past couple of years.

fyi, pulsing....

my 1st llmd after i was diagnosed put me on this PULSING routine:

3 days of doxycycline twice a day...spaced 12 hrs. apart for abx efficiency; 2 days off that one;

then start 2nd abx biaxin twice a day...spaced 12 hrs. aparat for abx efficiency; 2 days off that one;

then start the doxy over again for 3 days; 2 off; then biaxin again for 3 days; 2 off....

that's pulsed.

I HAD TO USE A CALENDAR TO MARK AND MARKED "B" OR "D" on there 3 days straight, 2 days of off, and i'd check them off daily so i wouldn't screw up! excessive paperwork.

then doc added other pills NOT taken daily....went on calendar too. [Frown]

Some LLMD's pulse & some don't.

I did straight non stop ABX for years before I was up to pulsing.

For me the pulsing allowed my body - stomach, liver ect..to recoup and also allowed my body to clear the toxins (herx).

And also the following theroy:

For example: I would pulse one week on & one week off. I have also pusled 5 days on & 2 off.

From what I could learn this is just one theory of pulsing:

When I was on my week on ABX I was killing the ketes-they can go into hiding or into cyst form.

I would then break for a week or a few days & this would trick them into thinking the coast was clear & they would come back out of hiding.

Then start up with the abx & whack them when they where out in the open again.

NOT all LLMDS pusle & then some will pusle only after a long time on straight ABX with little of no breaks.

Please talk over everything first with your LLMD

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and explanations. That helps me to better understand how to do this. My LLMD does believe in pulsing so I'll go off of the abx for a couple of days. I cannot believe how much pain I am in and how wigged out I am. Need a break!
