*Big Qualification Here*

I have no research to back this up.

Our two llmds both feel that Art is effective against lyme. They seem to think it gets to the cystic form.

The doc I saw in Atlanta also used it with lyme patients . I suspect it may kill some strains .
Thanks

It killed me. Don't get too carried away with it. Like anything else... start small.

im gradually working my way up on Art.
Ive been on it about 10 days. I noticed itchy type tingles and very mild shortness of breath. I cant say that it helped anything just yet.
Day 7-9 i was very very tired, achey, etc...but i have good and bad days all the time so i dont know if it was herxing or just me.

My question is..if you improve on Art..how long till you see an improvement...and should you stop if you have the itching?

I have read that it is prescribed in different ways. Some practitioners advise taking it five days a week, and staying off two days .

I believe others advise treating for a month at a time.

I have not tried it , as I have heard it can be problematic . Even Buhner ( herbalist ) is
hesitant about it , and advises cryptolepis instead .

JimBob had good results with ARTEMESIA , which I think is the natural whole herb . I have not read reports of toxicity with artemesia.

I would use REAL caution and listen to what your body is saying . If the reaction makes you nervous , then stop , or slow down .

If I were doing it , I would probably do five days on and two days off , but what do I know.

What do any of us REALLY know here ?

Chemical composition and antibacterial activity of essential oil of Artemisia iwayomogi.
Yu HH, Kim YH, Kil BS, Kim KJ, Jeong SI, You YO.
Department of Oral Biochemistry and VCRC, School of Dentistry, Wonkwang University, Iksan, South Korea.

The chemical composition of the essential oil from Artemisia iwayomogi Kitamura was analyzed by means of GC and GC-MS. Eighty-five constituents were identified representing 96.23 % of the total oil. Camphor (19.31 %), 1,8-cineole (19.25 %), borneol (18.96 %), camphene (4.64 %), and beta-caryophyllene (3.46 %) were found to be the major components. Furthermore, the oil exhibited antibacterial activity against six Gram-(+) and six Gram-(-) bacteria in tests using the broth dilution method.

IF you are going to use the WHOLE HERB Artemisia, Be SURE it is Artemisia annua. THAT is the ONLY Artemisia that has the Artemisinin that is extracted and is effective against Malaria. And some feel is good for Babesia.

I took Artemisinin first at Buhner's original recommendation of a low dose of 100mg 3 times daily for 30 days. I noticed NOTHING with it. So I upped to the higher dose of 1200mg a day for 3 days, then off for 14 days, then back on at the 1200mg a day for 3 more days.

With that I only felt a little tired and a little "flushed".

So I ordered Artemisia annua WHOLE HERB in bulk and made capsules with it. (Buhner recommends using it as a tea). I took it for two weeks at 600mg a day.

I DID notice some herxing with that. So I quit for a couple of weeks and was starting it again, when I switched from Andrographis to Coptis and I had MAJOR HERXING or REACTIONS that got me really scared. I QUIT ALL HERBS for a few days and then gradually added back in my regular protocol.

IT TOOK ME ABOUT THREE WEEKS TO RECOVER from THAT episode. Maybe longer.

I NEVER went back to the Artemisia annua, nor any Artemisinin. I re-introduced the Andrographis for a few weeks. Then QUIT THAT and went back on the Coptis for a few months.

BUT the COPTIS is super strong, and you MUST be really careful IF you decide to take that. I started out at just one capsule a day for a week, then two a day for a week, etc., till I got up to two capsules, three times a day as MY maximum dose of Coptis. Whereas I was up to 12 Capsules a day of MOST of my other herbs.

I might add here, that Coptis is probably THE stongest herb you can take without a prescription. AND there has been talk that they want to make it so you can ONLY get it by prescription. Don't know IF that will ever happen, but that is the talk in the medical community.

DOES Artemisinin KILL Lyme? There is SOME clinical studies showing where there is SOME of that attribute present. Artemisinin DOES have SOME antiparisitic action and MAY help SOME in
Lyme AND erlichia and bartonella.

Unfortunately there have not been much of any studies in this department. I imagine the drug companies don't feel they can make enough money on testing that.

SO, as usual, we are pretty much on our own. [bonk]

Close to three years ago now.....my son's first llmd put him on artemesinin to test his body's response. His muscle pains all increased and she used this as a signal to treat for babs.

Jim Bob,
Do you still take coptis ? What exactly made you scared when you tried it ? Did you feel like it was having a negative effect on your brain chemistry?

Do you think the artemesia annua was helpful ?

Is the andrographis that that you encapsulate
a concentrate or a whole herb?

I hope you are doing well and I have prayed for your colon problems.
thanks, ann

Sorry, I missed this thread yesterday, Ann.

NO, I am NOT taking Coptis right now. I do still have quite a bit, so may use in in the future, but I went back to Andrographis for the last few months.

I have started Oregano drops the last few days again. I have run out of Devil's Claw last weekend, so off of it right now. Not taking too much of anything right now, BUT I am feeling many of my symptoms returning, so got to get going again AFTER I find out tomorrow what the Ostomy Nurse says I need to do with my ruptured stoma situation.

I did talk to her on the phone. She didn't think it is life threatening righ now, BUT I do have to be concerned with getting infection in there, AND it could finishing tearing out and then the small intestine could come out completely.

She said she has never seen this in a person who has had an ostomy as long as me, 12 years. She said usually IF it is going to let loose, it happens within a week or so of the initial surgery, which was for me back in 1994.

The Andrographis that I have been using is the Plum Flower Brand 5:1 concentrate. However, WHEN I run out of that, I now have the whole herb powder in the Plum Flower brand that I will start using and see HOW I feel with that. It is certainly a LOT cheaper, and I am not so sure that Andro kills ALL that many spirochetes anyway. It IS antispirochetal, but I take it still for the enhancement qualities for your immune system.

YEs, I felt REALLY wierd taking the Coptis when I was also taking the Artemisia and still took ONE capsule of Andrographis that day. It was scarey weird. I felt a little like that when I was taking some Yohimbe Bark capsules earlier last year, but not as bad as this time.

It took me several weeks to recuperate from the bad feelings.

Hope this helps.
