On Page 209 of Buhner's book, he mentions using cat's claw, andrographis, and astrgalus during the tick season for prevention. He also says to use astragalus in endemic areas.

I cannot use astragalus as I have chronic Lyme. He says on p.125 "With late stage Lyme infection, asragalus is contraindicated as it will stimulate already overstimulated Th1 responses".

Is anyone using aspects of Buhner's protcol for prevention?

Much thanks.

I seem to be 'preventing' a lot of other illnesses while I"m on andrographis- I don't get sick anymore (and it's not just from having Lyme- I've already gone through the phase where you don't catch colds while you have Lyme initially). My boyfriend and roommates get sick reasonably often with various flu/cold/intestinal things and I think the andrographis is killing all that stuff before it takes root in me even though I'm exposed to their germs, eating the same food, etc.

Anyway, I know the theory you're talking about - and I think as with many things about the protocol, the andro and cats' claw should help even if you're not taking astragalus. The astragalus counteracts some of the immune system changes that are caused by tick saliva, and helps keep Lyme from taking root as a result, but the other herbs do kill Lyme spirochetes or make it easier for your immune system to combat Lyme infection.

lalalu,

Read planet thrive. He said that if you get reinfected while on core protocol, just add the astragalus, it'll be okay.

I took astragalus here and there. Now I'm not sure if I take it or not (as preventive), I'll let ART decide.

I'm on 3 andro again, 1 cats claw, knotweed tea, rizols, boneset and chlorella.

For what it's worth, my LLMD thinks that Buhner's recommendation against astragalus doesn't always apply to all cases, anyway. He read the same studies and came to a different conclusion.

I definitely have Chronic or late stage Lyme, having had it for about 7.5 years.

I have Astragalus here now, but haven't taken it yet. I have never tried it yet. NEVER. I do plan to try it in the near future to see IF I get any reaction to it, one way or the other.

MariaA,

I've heard that as well.
And astragalus is in A-Bart (Byron Whites)

Buhner has also stated that he doesn't think a small amount of Astragalus will be too bad.

I think he's referring to the aggressive dosages.

Canefan, I couldn't find that on the A-bart data sheet..

Oh whoops - it's in the A-Lyme complex formula

So it's still in a byron white formula - just not A-Bart

sorry
