I started taking coq10 the other day. Just 30mg of it. The first day I was okay. Took another the second day and my nerves were flaring! My

heart was racing, cotton mouth, stomach felt extremely nervous could not eat, and felt anxiety. I was suprised I felt this way, I was

not expecting to react so strongly from it. Can anyone tell me if this is common? I should also mention the coq10 was mixed with Gingko. My mom

thinks it could be the Gingko givning me the

problem. I bought this from Nature's sunshine. Never had any problmes with any of there other

supplements. Anybody have similar experices
from this.
Thanks,
Marcie

I used to have a reaction like that, although milder than what you are describing, to CoQ10 before being diagnosed with lyme and starting treatment.

Now I take 30mg/day without problems.

Marcie -- I have heard that some people have allergies to ginkgold. I think I am one of them. But, if you have been taking ginkgold alone, prior to the CoQ10, and were okay, then that could be ruled out. If not, it might be worthwhile to try CoQ10 at least once without any added herbs, etc.

Another thought is that there could be some fillers you are reacting to. There was a topic not long ago about CoQ10 where everyone chimed in with their favorite CoQ10 and where to buy them for best prices, etc. There was also some discussion about which fillers are best. Also, it was recommended that vitamin E be taken with it.

I will bring that topic up. There is a lot of technical research, but other information about fillers, favorite brands etc., can be found from members replies. But the research in interesting, too, if you can follow it. That is how I became interested in it.

Finally, people can experience some difficulty with CoQ10 at first, and those that are aiming for a higher dose sometimes have to increase it slowly, at least that was my experience and my daughters.

Thanks Claire for the link. It is hard to follow the technical research, but I can get some of it.

I was not on Gingko before, so I am wondering if that could be it. From previous posts others have had reactions to Gingko.

I will try the coq10 again, but without the Gingko in it.

It is the Ginkgo.

Go here:

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/alt/ginkgo_cp.htm

A dry mouth, or cotton mouth and the anxiety, heart racing symptoms = neurotransmitter levels changed .

NO (nitric oxide) is also considered a "neurotransmitter". So are some individual vitamins.

Ya might already know, if on anti-depressants, a very common side effect is a dry mouth. This is why doctors recommend chewing gum when on anti-depressants.

The anti-depressants work by keeping the level of certain neurotransmitters UP.

Ginkgo is okay for MOST people, but not all.

My son has genetically (and tested via a functional MRI) extremely small vertebral arteries which send nutrients to the frontal lobe.

IF vessels canNOT dilate = problems.

This is also the underlying cause of sudden blindness from a very select few men who take Viagra (which also dilates some blood vessels). Vessels that cannot dilate = increased pressure = damage.

In my son's case, Ginkgo -> a migraine and near seizure. We learned the "hard way", years ago.

Hi,

I had this kind of reaction to Coenzyme Q10 too while on the Biaxin and Flagyl when I first started treatment for lyme. This was 3 years ago,

There was nothing else in the capsule but Coenzyme Q10.

I felt like I had so much energy I was going to collapse, it was really an odd reaction to it because I have taken it before while OFF antibitoics and did not have this kind

of reaction. I stopped it. I think? it could have been a herx? not sure, I just did not take it, I was on it about one week, and thought I was going to have a heart attack.

I stopped it.

I then tried it again, a year or so later, while on antibitoics and did not have this reaction, but I did feel sick, I am not sure if I am going to take it, I may try it again.

Some do not take it, and are fine and get well.

For me, it was the co-enzyme Q10, and wether or not it was a herx? I tend to think that if it was a herx, then I should have had this reaction to it while off antibitoics, I did not.

So I dont think? it was a herx.
Was it a reaction with the anitbiotics? maybe, I dont know, scary stuff this mixing of supps with antibitoics for me. Never know what is what.

I am fine with vit C, and a multivitamin while on antibitoics,

Trish

HI Health
I think Marnie is right it was the Gingko and not the coq10. I am going to buy coq10 w/o the Gninko in it to find out for sure.

The more I have been reading it makes more sense the reaction I had would be the Ginko.

I take many other supplements and herbs, never had a problem before.

This now is going to make me more aware of what else is in these supplements.

CoQ10 is an enzyme that we MAKE when we exercise.

As I understand it...it carries hydrogen INTO the mitochondria.

We need B6 to make it. Along with B6, we need Mg...

The interplay!

I tried the ginko one time. Bad mistake. I had a massive headache, jittery, and thought I was going to end up in the doc's office.

My husband takes it every day but I've never tried it again.

Have no problem with the coq tho.
