Preventic tick collar for dogs....

Anybody using this product? It is not recommended for cats, unfortunately.

Apparently this product is the first tick-control product tested in a study to prevent the transmission of Lyme Disease....

(Study info: Elfassy O, Goodman F, Levy S, Carter L. Efficacy of an amitraz-impregnated collar in preventing transmission of Borrelia burgdorferi by adult Ixodes scapularis to dogs. JAVMA 2001; 219:185-189.)

I worked for a veternarian...I/we actually saw ticks crawling on the collar. I don't use them.

I was offered this tick collar for my 2 dogs after frontline failed to prevent ticks from "hitching" a ride in on the top of their fur.

The warning labels on it where kinda scary.

It said if you touch the collar to wash your hands right away. It is very toxic. So the chance when I pet them of accidentally touching the collar was high.

Also my 2 dogs tend to rumble sometimes & the collar said make sure the animal doesn't lick or have it come into contact with his mouth.

So I did decline the use of the collar due to it's high toxcitiy reasons.

Thanks very much for the feedback. I didn't realize these collars had been around so long.

It sounds like they are more effective than say Frontline or Advantage, but more toxic.

Not exactly the perfect solution. There never is.

Why can't we come up with a collar for people?
