Am to d/c zithromax (600mg) and begin Levaquin at 500mg a day (one pill).
This along with bactrim and extra magnesium to help prevent tendon problems.
Any advice on this med other than tendonitis issues?
I am sorry this is so brief. Had a flat tire on way home....took me 6 hours to make a 3 hour trip.
I appreciate any advice or suggestions or ideas of how bad a herx I should expect....
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Hugs,
Geneal

Levaquin caused me some very painful moments and I had to stop taking it. Even after I had stopped the muscle and tendon problems remained for weeks.
Just my experience....others do okay on it.... would advise that you stop if you get this problem. I did better on Cipro.
Good luck!

I have done 3 courses of Levaquin with excellent results. Each time I have herxed, but less each time, with good improvement in symptoms.Hope you do as well. Cindy

Hi Geneal,
I'm on Levaquin now, and at first it gave me one heck of a herx. Some symptoms seem better now, so I believe it's worthwhile.
My LLMD had me start off with 250 mg for a week, then up it to 500 mg. After the first 3 weeks at 500 mg, I developed tendonitis & had to stop taking the Lev while it healed. Must have caught it early, because the tendon pain went away within a few weeks.
(Oh, and during the time my tendon was healing, when I was not taking Levaquin, I developed a bart rash for the first time, ugh.)
Because I'm a wimp about the tendonitis, I've done some experimenting with my dosing (with my LLMD's knowledge) - if things are too intense & I begin to feel tendon pain, I drop back down to 250 mg for a few days, then go back up.
I've also found it works better if I split the doses and take 250 mg in the am & pm. Each time I try to go back up to 500 mg once daily, I begin to feel tendon pain.
As far as the herx goes - it was rough at first. Very painful, but I did seem to feel an increase in energy, and had quite a problem with insomnia at first. 3 months into it, and now I have less pain, and the insomnia has given way to unrelenting fatigue. Hopefully that will pass as well.
Hope the Levaquin experience goes smoothly for you!
