I was wonderin if anyone with Lyme has had Lasik Eye surgery? If you did, what was the outcome? How did you do with it?

I don't know if it is a good idea. Even for non-lyme.
I've know at least two people who it didn't go well for. They are in pain almost all the time and say it feels like sand is in their eyes.
Not all lasik operators are good at what they do I guess. Or maybe something in the person's condition is aggravated by the surgery.

I was approached by an opthomologist about lasik. My feeling is that the inflammation I have all over due to Lyme is also very much in my eyes.
i have glaucoma pressure that only seems to go away when I'm on Rocephin.
Too much fluxuation in the state of my eye for me to every consider this a safe bet.

Because of my lyme, I have not considered it for myself. Too many eye symptoms to consider cutting them. And I don't heal very easily after surgery.

I got Lasik 1 1/2 years ago and have generally been okay with it, mainly because I don't have to deal with glasses while bedridden (which is often!).
My eyes have not really been affected by Lyme and that's why I decided to go ahead and do it. Unfortunately, I now see a lot of static and ghosting, and my vision goes from almost clear to somewhat blurry.
When I told my LLMD I got Lasik she was furious with me! But, for me, it's been better than wearing glasses so I'm still glad I did it (for now)!

I had Lasik surgery done on both eyes in 2000. Had no trouble with eyesight until about 2003 when I noticed that my eyesight was not as sharp as it had been.
My eye doctor seemed very upset about this and was basically rude and appeared angry. I guess My situation was a blot on his figures.
I can see without my glasses but not very well. I need them to watch tv, etc. I have also developed far-sightedness, needing reading glasses for some small print close reading.
I began developing cataracts about 2 years ago. That hasn't gotten so bad that I need surgery but I will at some point. Mostly, I now see as if I am looking through a hazy, yellowing screen.
I have to say that my eye doc was the least of all my doctors interested in Lyme disease. He wouldn't talk about it nor would he read some articles I had copied about Lyme and eye problems. Posted by Kayda (Member # 10565) on :
thanks for the input......I was wondering about the inflammation and the surgery. I was reading a lot about it and it seems if there are conditions that may change the shape of your cornea (certain medications, illnesses, pregnancy, etc) then you have to wait until those conditions are resolved.
As a Lyme patient, I know my vision changes on a day to day basis. So, it would be difficult to get an accurate prescription. What works today may not tomorrow. :-(

I want this but my eye doc sees a bunch of LYmies and he says we ALL have DRY EYES and so he thinks it is a bad idea!!! But I may go ahead some day and do it anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because I really want it~!!!!!!!!!!! I never take the time to wear my contacts anymore with my little one- and it would be nicer than glasses!!!! He has advised all his Lymies no so no one around here has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If more people reply on here that they had no problems... who knows*)!)*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd love to have it done, but my eyes are terribly dry and I'm terrified of having any surgery...

I had Lasik done 6 months ago and am absolutely thrilled that I did it!!! My eyesight is wonderful- now need reading glasses to read small print because I am 47. I am very happy to not wear glasses all the time!!!
I have very chronic lyme and am non ambulatory and in a wheelchair. Best decision I evermade!

I had Lasik surgery in 1999. I've had no problems since the surgery.
I LOVE no needing glasses. I used to wear very thick lenses...couldn't even read the big E , the biggest letter on the eye chart.
I may have had Lyme much longer than I thought, but if so, doesn't seem to have affected the Lasik surgery.
I developed a bunch of Lyme symptoms in June '06.
I had an eye exam in December. My Rx only changed slightly. I have had steady vision and only recently started using glasses for driving.
The past few weeks I noticed I can't even read the clock on my stove from across the room. I have an eye exam in May. My vision tends to fluctuate, but not this much.

I went to see an eye doctor in Pennsylvania that specializes in lyme. He said definitely no lasik for me and no contacts (after wearing them 30 years!).
My regular eye doctor also warned against both.This may be because of my particular situation. He said as you get older many people who had lasik will still need glasses because our eyes keep changing.
They offered this information without my even asking about having it done! Karen

I lost my ability to wear contact lenses some time ago. I'm not sure if it is because of the Lyme and an allergy to all solutions or if it is the contact lenses themselves.
It seems the good reports are very, very good but the bad ones are really bad.

I had Lasik Eye Surgery four years ago and it was great no more glasses or contacts. I would do it again if I had too but my eyes are better then 20/20 now. they sell some great stuff for dry eyes but it is not cheap. I would rather put drops in my eyes then put on glasses or contacts.

I have had chronic LD for 19 years. I had lasik surgery 7 years ago. My opthamologist, who I had been seeing for over 10 years. performed the surgery.
It's been a huge success for me and I am so happy I had it done. Had gotten to the point where I couldn't wear contacts.
I wouldn't have entrusted my eyes to just anyone, but I really trust my doctor. He teaches other physicians how to perform the surgery.

Lemonade, why did he tell you no contacts? My eyes becoming blurry is what started me on the lyme journey. I wear contacts and find that somedays my eyes are fine and others they are blurry. Right now I'm afraid that going to an eye doctor will be a waste of time, most especially if its a bad day.
