I have difficulty with weight on my rib cage as if I couldn't eally lift it as much as I need to breath, I am freaking out, can this be als?

We can't tell you what it is you have, we are not doctors here. You will need to provide more information. Do you have Lyme disease? Are you being treated? ALS has been proven to be caused by Lyme in many cases, it could be the same thing, we need more research. Check out the literature, and let us know more about your case. sorry, silly me, I am in a bit of a state
I have had lyme for 4 years, pratically untreated, or treated a little bit. I was just wondering if the breathing problem could sound like an als like syndrome, I mean I wonder if I am taking that turn: more specifically are the respiratory muscles the last to go when you have als or a als like syndrome due to lyme or can they becom paralysed before other parts of your body (I am not paralysed anywhere but I lose sensitivy and function a bit for periods of time).

Babesia makes me feel as if I can't move my diaphragm at times.

yes, that's the feeling, it's like I am wearing a corset of steel, and I find myself blaming my bra, of course it can't be becuase I have been wearing a bra since the night of times and never had this. I have been treated with lariam for babesia (still taking it but had to stop for a few weeks). Can lyme do the same thing?
ahhh, I forgot, I woke up a couple of time realising I had stopped breathing (and I was dreaming of being suffocated by the blanket), when I woke up I found myself taking in a huge breath

I've had the thing where I wake up with a big gasp for breath, but I'm wondering if that's just sleep apnea. I know I snore. Anyway, I have had pretty severe problems with my diaphragm. Weakness and just not working properly. Probably the babesiosis with me. One of my scariest symptoms.

Seewater, try "abdominal breathing," which is when you take a breath and your abdomen rises, rather than your ribcage lifting.
When you do this, the diaphragm, a muscle which separates the lungs from the abdominal cavity, causes the lungs to expand, rather than the muscles of the ribcage doing it.
More air goes into the lower lobes of the lungs, which helps to oxygenate better.
This is the type of breathing you should be doing when you meditate.

Go to a doctor and get it checked ouT!!! Lyme and the coinfections CAN cause lung problems- it could be TBD related or not- but if it is bothering you you should get it checked out!!! Go to a doctor!!! Best wishes, Sarah

Hi Everyone,
I have just been through this terrible weight on my sternum, chest and around my chest.
Came up as having co-infections of Chlamydia pneumonia and Mycoplasma pneumonia and a serious bacterial stomach infection....plus yeast.
I have been on abx for 1 month for the infections. My pain in my upper body was so bad.
I had to sleep sitting up. And air hunger!!!!
I am feeling better but need to be treated for babesia. But the pain in the chest is much more under control.
I would ask your LLMD about getting these blood tests.
So the Chlamydia infection is known to cause (only possibly)a heart problem as it is an infection in the muscles and tissues around your heart.
So this Wed. I am doing a stress test w/ a cardiologist to to make sure.
So I guess that is my 2 cents about that unbearable chest pain. Good luck with that and goo see your LLMD.

It sounds like something you might want to get checked out. It could be something serious, or it could be something as simple as respiratory alkalosis or anxiety - either of which can lead to an ineffective O2-CO2 exchange leaving you feeling like you can't get a good breath. Like there is a weight on your chest.
I've had similar breathing troubles as you described and ended up in the hospital with a pulmonary specialist. (All before I was diagnosed with lyme) In the end they found nothing wrong with me. Initially they thought it could be something like respiratoty alkalosis caused by all the pregnancy and breastfeeding hormones I had floating around. Keeping my diet in check and staying on the alkaline side seems to keep it in check, although I do have a lot more troubles now that I am preggo again.
And staying calm during an episode is huge. Getting upset just intensifies the problem.

thank you for your input, I am goign to go to the dr, I have waited so long because I thought she would only tell me it is anxiety, but I know it isn't.
About clamydia and mycoplasma, are the tests accurate? I was tested for mycoplasma 2 years ago but my dr said that we have all had it and a pos test means very little.
Now I have gone from a weight in the chest like my respiratory muscles don't work properly to feeling my actual lungs don't work properly: I find it hard to walk the dog because I am out of breath. These seem to be 2 separate issues,

I also had that symptom years ago-it was one of the only symptoms that went away with abx. Dr gave me zithromax at that time.
