Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with Lyme about a month ago. Igenix labs tests came back positive for acute lyme. I have been sick for approximately 6 months, but I don't know how long I have had the disease in my body. I like many other people on these boards have never been a "sick" person till this occured.

For the past month I have been on oral Amoxicilin and have recently added Flagyl to the mix. I started out feeling better, but now I feel that I am starting to slip again. Is this normal? I see my doctor next week, but I haven't felt this bad since I started taking the antibiotics.

I have been having air hunger, so I assume that I have a co-infection of some sort. What do you think I may have? My doc tested me for the co-infections, but I won't find out for another 2 weeks or so.

Lately I've been having extremely bad headaches, I'm talking worse than before and neck pain. Something new is my body has been very itchy. I don't know what that is from. Could it be the antibiotics? I don't know all I know is I am extremely sick. I had light sensitivity, noise sensitivity and movement sensitivity prior, but it seems those are now getting worse. The best part of the day seems to be early morning shortly after I wake. After that its all random. From really bad, to almost normal. Never quite normal.

I appreaciate any kind of input. Didn't mean to be so long winded, I just wanted to get my name out there.

One last thing, I have a doctor who has over 120 lyme patients so I assume he knows what he is doing.

Thnx for the time

h8inng lyme

welcome, and thanks for intro about yourself.

yes, with lyme treatment my SUPER SENSITIVITIES of lights, glare, reflections; noise/sounds; and chemicals ... perfume, aftershave, cleaning/office products, cigarette smoke, diesel, etc. are MUCH WORSE!

i sent you my 51 pages just a little while ago so SKIM IT FIRST to give you an idea what is in there, and i know many links i provided will provide extra guidance to you.

please reply to my 51 pages, which was sent by a PM..private message, and tell me the name of your LLMD, lyme literate MD. i'll check to see if they are on either of my 2 llmd lists ok!

i'll let others get involved in answering more of your questions. time for me to get off and [sleepy]

Hi there -- sorry you've had to join this club.

My understanding is that air hunger can be from low oxygen, which goes with Lyme.

Itching can go with Lyme. I also think it can be a reaction to a med.

Changing meds goes with Lyme. I think some of your questions are ones you figure out with a Lyme-treating doctor as well as with support groups(here online as well as any you can go to), if you have any near you.

I drink mangosteen juice and it clears up my eye problems. No more eye pain, light sensitivity or blurry vision. If you do it, drink a lot of water.

Sounds like my symptoms of babesia. I have never had a positive test, but have had some good relief of these symptoms with Artemisinin.

I couldnt tolerate the normal babesia meds. Hopefully your DR. will treat for it even if tests are negative.Hope you feel better soon,
Cindy

Welcome.

Unfortunately this is a disease where the treatment often makes you

Feel worse than the disease.....initially anyways.

It's a one step forward two steps backwards kind of dance.

Eventually, it will be one step forward, one step back and then hopefully just forward.

Air hunger has been one of my scariest symptoms.

I tested negative for babesia, however, did herx and make progress

With this on first round of babs treatment (3 months of malarone and zith with bactrim ds thrown in).

Remember, the tests for babs are not that accurate either.

The best they can do is test for 1 to 2 strains of this....

Your LLMD should know based on symptoms.

It is a rocky road....but hang in there.

It does get better.

Oh, and one more piece of advice that has been given to me here

And means so much....Slow and steady wins the race.

Hugs,

Geneal

Thank you all for the great replies.

This is a very active board. I wrote my question, slept for 5 hours and got so many responses.

Oh yeah, one of the worst symptoms is I can't seem to sleep for long periods of time like I used to be able to. I sometimes sleep 1 hour and wake up other times I sleep 5, but rarely do I sleep more than that =(.

Definitely sounds like you're herxing. The flagyl packs a whollop! (sp?)

Go easy on yourself and rest as much as you can.

Glad you found us!!

Welcome [hi]

Flagyl was one of the worst abx as far as herxing for me...

but it did help considerably.

Itching can be a sign of an allergic reaction so you might want to tell you dr just in case it is.

And hang in there

h8inng lyme,

I'm right there with you. Sorry you're feeling bad. I usually wake up, and like you, have a few not normal, but as close as normal gets nowadays hours.

The air hunger really scares me too. The head pressure, chest pressure, and the air hunger seem to get worse mid morning and mid afternoon. They don't really go away, they just get worse. Do you have this same cycle?

Hang in there.

W E L C O M E !*)!*)!*!
!*)!*)!*)!*!)!)!*)!

Glad to have you aboard!*)*!)! It sounds like you are Herxing with teh additional abx!!
That is when your symptoms get worse or even increase when you add an abx*)!!!!!!!!!!! it is actually a GOOD sign because it means you will get that much better and are responsive to tx!!!

2 things to know re Flagyl-

1. If you suddenly get VERY depressed and/or suicidal, GO OFF FLAGYL!!! It will feel REAL, but it is THE FLAGYL!!!

2. If you get bad peripheral neuropathy, GO OFF FLAGYL because it can cause that unlike other abx where it is a Herxing of that symptom!!!

Best wishes,
Sarah
