Does anybody know how Lyme patients deal with allergy shots? Do they seem to help the allergies? Do we get worse (Lyme-wise) from the shots? I am curious about this and have been for some time.
Also, a friend read that allergies get worse ffrom extensive abx use. I can only imagine that this would be from yeast... and maybe our immunes systems getting confused from the abx? I don't know.

Since Dr C of MO does allergy testing for his Lyme patients, I have to believe that allergy shots help lyme patients.
I wouldn't think lyme patients would get worse from the shots. If you take away the burden of allergies, it should be helpful to the body.
I agree that yeast would make allergies worse....hence the sugar free, yeast free diets we are supposed to be on!

I had allergy shots before I was diagnosed. My allergies really improved on them, and I don't remember any increase in symptoms. I did not realize I was sick at this time.

Every one is so different. Treating lyme with abx helped me greatly with allergies and MCS. However, the allergy shots made me so much worse!
So you and your doctor need to figure out what is going to work best for you at this time.

I think one of the factors that has to be considered with immunotherapy is that you are putting small amounts of allergins in the body in the hopes that the body will develop an immunity to it. With lyme, our immune systems are compromised, some of us worse than others, so expecting our immune systems to act 'normal' and develop the strength to fight off allergins may be asking too much.
I had allergy shots many years ago before being dxed. They really didn't have much of an impact on me in terms of improving my symptoms. A couple of years ago when allergies started bothering me again I returned to an allergist, and she definitely did not recommend injections.

Thanks you guys. This info is actually for a friend of mine with Lyme who is going to go to an allergist. I started to ponder it with our immune systems so wacked and changing all the time. It seems like maybe they would help us as our immune systems got more stabliized, or maybe they would help some people and some not - as is clear from the responses. I'll pass this inof on and see if she decides to go for it.
