How long does sensitivity to sunlight last once tetracycline or doxycycline treatment stops. A day or two? week?

I was on tetracycline (1000mg a day) for acne a long.... time ago and I would go to the lake every weekend while taking it, never ran into any problems!

Last time I went to the beach my doctor switched me from doxy to biaxin temporarily. She had me start the biaxin a week before I left just to be on the safe side. A week off, and I didn't have any problems from the sun.

My LLMD said it took three days to get out of my system enough to get some sunshine. I could go outside the fourth day.

Be careful of doxy, it causes more sun sensitivity than the others. I'm having no problem with sun and mino, but I got sun poisoning through a car window wearing while wearing #35 sunscreen with the doxy.

i had sun/light super sensitivities to lights, glare, and reflections before lyme and pulsed doxy.

now it's 300% worse; doxy ended after 20 months; last year.

I got super sun sensitive from Doxy and honestly it was weeks afterwards until I could go outside and not get burned (and I am a nautral tanner!!).
But I am the extreme- I don't know anyone who it lasted for more than a week except me- my body just is extra sensitive someways I guess-

It tooks weeks after I stopped Doxy for the burns on my hands to go away. I used SPF clothing, sunblock, hat, gloves, etc. - got burned driving in my car despite it all. I'm very fair skinned, though.

Unfortunately, I have to go back on it and we're having a heat wave!!

Right now am waiting for an answer from my LLMD as to when to stop doxy and what I can substitute, as we will be in major sun starting a week from Friday. I have my LLMD app't two days before we leave, but think that will be too late!

When I was on high dose doxy before, I actually sunburned the backs of my heels, and my toenails, because I would go walking in sandals. Since it was early AM, never thought about the feet needing to be totally covered. I think it built up over a couple of weeks, and at first I had no idea what it was.

When I hear from him I will post what he recommends, and I am going to call the pharmacist
as well for the latest I could stop.

I think in part it would have to depend on the dosage - stopping a higher dosage may take more time before getting in the sun. My lyme teen was told to wait a week after stopping doxy (actually doryx) before going in the sun and then to be sure to use a sunblock. When he was on doryx last summer, he took a lot of caution with sun exposure.

I'm on mino and that is also a photo sensitive drug. In my case I don't burn but get an unbelievable tan. Sitting in the sun for a brief period of time really makes me feel good and the tan gives me a healthier appearance. I proceed with caution and definitely limit my sun exposure. I don't want to end up looking like a leather suitcase!

Talked to the pharmacist today about stopping the doxy, and he calculated the half life, etc and said that 5 days should be safe, but one week ahead would be better to stop before getting back into the sun.

Thanks for all the advice.

Ann
