I came across this supplement when I was trying to look up some stuff about dihydrotestosterone after I heard on a medical report today that they believe it is one of the causes of Prostate Cancer.
My LLMD has me on DHEA 5mg/day, as he says all Lyme patients are low on hormones. But I have a little concern about making too much estrogen/estradiol...
so when I started reading that DIM has a modulating effect on testosterone and estrogen and studies have shown it to actually cause the death of estrogen mediated (or is it dependent) cancer cells I started reading more!
It is highly recommended for those taking supplemental DHEA! Probably anyone with breast cancer in their family should be taking it.
There's a lot of info out there on DIM, but be careful about the other compound in cruciferous vegetables, Indole-3-carbinol (I3C)..it is not good for you... if you dig deep enough you will find articles about how I3C was found to actually cause cancer cell proliferation and other things.
Didn't have time to read if there are DIM studies showing the same results for Prostate cancer as Breast cancer, just read where it said that it blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (believed to cause Prostate cancer).

I take it as well. I had breast cancer last year. Early stage, detected on a routine mammagram. Had surgery and follow-up radiation. Also take brocolli sprouts.
My BC is likely related to the fact that I was exposed to DES when my mom took it before I was born. BC is now showing up in the DES daughters after the age of 40 or so. Even higher incidence at age 50.
Good to do whatever you can to reduce incidence, and avoid HRT, especially if you are a DES daughter.
