Hello all!

I noticed a white peice of what I thought was dead skin coming out of my surgery scar. I got the tweezers (because it's on my chest and hard to see) and began to pull on this really hard and it wasn't comming out.

It's not a dead piece of skin after all, it's a STRING!!!! Does anyone know if this is normal with port surgery? I wanted to ask here before I call the surgeon. I had a bad experience with him and he basically called me a baby (hypersensitivity to pain).

Thanks friends,

mrs dizzy

Wow! I don't know the answer to your question, but I was praying for a woman who was quite sick. No one really knew what was wrong. She had had surgery and the surgery should have helped her problem. About a year later though, she had a 3 foot long section of gauze come out of her incision site. The site had never completely healed. When it was out, her health returned rather quickly.

Hi Mrs Dizzy,
it may be a piece of dissolvable stitch. It's probably ok to snip the end close to the skin. and the rest will dissolve. If the skin is not red and inflammed of hot, don't sweat it. Also, have your IV nurse check it out. She will tell you if you have to call the surgeon abt it.

I hope your infusions are going well, and you are felling some improvement!

Thanks for your help!

I showed it to the nurse this morning and she didn't know what it was. I'm not sure what disolvable stiches are made of now a days, however, this is pretty thick for a stitch. Also, it is fabric.

Earlier in he week it was barely popping out. My husband and I thought it was just dead skin but realized after it came out a little more that it was fabric, 2 pieces, like part of a gauze. There is a dime sized lump underneath the area too.

I'm gonna call the surgeon who put it in just incase tomorrow.

My infusions are going well, thanks achey :-) I'm really sick today. I added the Flagyl (3 pills a day 500 mg) along with the 4 mg of Rocephin. It's kicking my butt. I'm sweating like a pig and my knees are killing me, hopefully this is a good sign!

Thanks again!

Kadya,

That's so sad about that woman, ugh! I saw a show on Discoevery Health about surgery tools being left behind, how terrible! I am glad she was able to finally figure it out though, that can be nasty!

wow, you added all the flagyl at once! take it easy there girl! Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and maybe lemon water if you like it to clear all that die off. I hope the herx clears soon.

Yes, it sounds like the surgeon needs to look at his handywork! I'll be curious to know what you have there. I hope everything stay clean, and healthy. I'll keep you in my prayers!

Thanks achey!

I'm pulsing Flagyl 2 weeks on 1 week off. I'm taking everything as my Dr. ordered :-) Thanks for the prayers, you're so sweet!

Wow......that sounds like a lot of flagyl! you are a brave woman!

I dunno about the surgery/piece of cloth thing, but think I'd definitely have the doctor check it out.

ya, the Flagyl is really beating me up, however, I can take it amazingly! Maybe I'm speaking too soon [Wink] I was in bed all day and am getting out just to eat and read a few messages!

I was thinking that I would only do 1 or 2 a day of Flagyl, but I'm going for the gold. I wanna beat this thing once and for all [bonk]

My symptoms are off and on but the one's I'm experiencing the most are:

Feeling like I'm on fire
dizziness
fluey
BAD knee pain
FATIGUE

Other than that, I'm doing okay [Big Grin] well, I did have a minor breakdown earlier and cried for an hour, but I'm ok now [Big Grin]
