I am kind of reeling from the news, but my daughter is pregnant again. This time AFTER knowing she is infected with Lyme. It was not planned.

Are antibiotics the way to go? The thought of yet another one of my grandchildren being likely infected makes me so, so sad.

Yes, she should be put on amoxicillin... to try to keep the baby from being infected. I'm sorry. This must be so scary for you.

My sister tested positve when she was two months pregnant. She was lucky because her OBGYN was totally on board with the ILADS lyme doc I had her see. She was on ceftin during her pregnancy. The baby appears to be fine but its kind of a wait and see thing.

Don't worry about it!!! I know many women who had babies while infected and as long as on amoxicillin all have been fine.

I am on 1500 3 times a day-

Congratulations!!!! My little one has brought me great joy!!!!!!!!

Hi CaliforniaLyme,

Did you take 1500 a day in total of amox, or 500mg 3xday?
Thanks

Don't worry about it? We have to worry, we are Moms. Unfortunatley I also know a woman who is infected and has had miscarriage after miscarriage.

Thank you all for your replies. I am pretty sure that her doc who is a perinatologist and was her doc when she had to deliver her 2nd at 26 1/2 weeks will work with this. She is going to contact our LLMD.

She has been pregnant 3 times. The first was a miscarriage. The second was a normal pregnancy while on heparin and may be the reason she managed to carry to full term as she had really bad hypercoagulation with blue hands, feet and lips.

The 3rd involved a placenta privia that abbrupted at about 3 months when she was put on bed rest. Then into the hospital at 24 weeks and had to deliver at just 26 1/2 weeks due to hemorrage.

Her doc was really good, but there is so much out of his control and he had to do a very radical c-section in order to try to save her little girl. He originally said, no more children, but says now, it will be ok. He is a real sweet heart and is a "glass is half full" kind of doc. I guess that is needed in his kind of work.

Now we are on #4, and you can see why I am so worried. Unlike you CaliforniaLyme I am not so optimistic as things haven't gone all that well so far for her. I feel she has 2 beautiful little girls by the skin of her teeth. From what I see and read antibiotics are a gurarantee of nothing. As Lymieindunkirk said it is a wait and see thing. I think both of your children are still small I just read.

I gave Lyme to both of my children and they didn't give definete clues that they were sick that I recognized until they were in their teens. There were earlier clues, I just thought they were sickly kid clues, but still those didn't show up until about 6 or 7. I didn't know I had Lyme.

My daughter is very sick herself and has been infected her whole life. I also read here recently of I think a 2 1/2 year old who has just been diagnosed with Lyme that they believe to be responisble for her Autism. Mom did everything she was supposed to do in regards to antibiotics......it didn't work.

Can you tell I am upset???? Sorry for ranting. I am just so concerned in so many different directions. I am terrified that some how we will end up doing the preemie thing again and this time we won't be so lucky.

Hi Jelly

Please do a search using my user name as my story is much like yours and your daughter. I posted several times during my very unexpected pregnancy last year. My baby boy is now 9 months old and healthier than any of the 4 other babies I have. Fortuneately with this baby I knew I had lyme unlike the first 4.

God has a way of getting those little critters here regardless of whether we think we should procreate or not.

I dont think Cal-lyme was trying to minimize your fear or downplay the possibilities. Those to me were words of encouragement as long as your daughter follows the advice of her LLMD.

Dr J was very optimistic during my preg about a positive outcome and I wasted MUCH energy being worried rather than enjoying the absolute miracle growing inside of me.

Bad things can happen in preg and newborns whether we have lyme or not. Doing our best to prevent those things is the key.

God bless you, your daughter and the little one. PM me if you would like. I dont post alot because sometimes the simplest of comments turn into major debates and I just dont have the energy to deal with such negativity.

Love

Cheryl

I had a m/c in July.. I'm not sure if I was infected then, but I think I was and I think that is why I lost the baby. I guess I will never know...

Dear Mom-of-Person,

YES Jellybelly I can see why you are so scared- she has had a rough time of it and you too as her Mom- it sounds horrific- but lovely too to end up with two granddaughters- I hope this one goes better!!!!

You never know- pre-Lyme my FIRST successful pregnancy was a NIGHTMARE- 2 surgeries, pneumonia, severe preeclampsia and on bedrest for a total of 7 months of an 8 month pregnancy! (and being told at 5 months they were going to deliver- THAT sucked but thank god my bp changed- they had never seen it get better when it was so high in protein before!!!) AFTER LYME and on abx my pregnancy was NORMAL!!! NO problems until the end my BP got a little wily but I got to walk around the whole 9 months- that was awesome!!! So I hope it is the same with your daughetr!!!! Also I had 5 miscarriages including a late one (4& 1/2 months) pre my first daughter and I tend to think I had "smoldering Lyme" that had not yet been re-ignited by tick bite because of all those problems... on the amoxicillin- normal- after all those little tragedies-

Savebabe- surely you jest!!! NOPE!! 4500 a day total!!! 1500 3 times a day!!!! STILL on that, have been for over 3 years now through pregnancy and now STILL (at 2 & 1/2 years, well 2 years 5 months) breastfeeding (I wish she would wean I am so ready to wean but this is SC and lengthy breastfeeding is not unusual every single kid in her playgroup is still nursing too! eeek!! I am tired of it!!!). But when she hopefully soon stops nursing I can go back to cipro which had me symptom-free!!!!!!!!!!!!! And luckily I have no side effects at all from the amoxi- nada!!!
I highly rec'd it as a pregnancy protocol!!!
Best wishes,
Sarah
who is SO so so tired of breastfeeding!!!

I'm just so tired of all of this stuff. I have kept my head up for so long with this illness and I'm getting tired, even though I am doing so much better. Watching it all happen with my kids is so draining.

My daughter called our LLMD yesterday and he said yes on the abx. But, he is going to talk to Dr. J first and will get back to her today.

Thank you Cheryl, I will go look up your story. And thank you Sarah, you have also been through much. I am glad that this last pregnancy was, it sounds like your best and your little one is doing well. I will keep hoping for that in her case.

Then we can hope and pray that all of these little ones will somehow escape the nighmare we all have lived.
