Guessing you have a pic-line?

Keep it dry! I was wrapping saran wrap -several layers around my arm for showers.

It helps to have a shower wand, then you can wet just what you want to get wet.

I also washed my hair while standing outside the tub - held the wand in the hand that had the pic line.

I had 7 months if rocephin IV treatment. Don't miss a dressing change.

Keep an eye on the skin around the pic-line. If anything looks different, have an IV nurse check it out.

If your self injecting, make sure it is done slowly. Better slower than prescribed than faster.

Hope you feel better soon.....(or worse because of Herxing)!

Hey hey DJ...

Looks like host gave you some really good pointers. I don't have much more to add other than to wish you luck and hope you feel better soon.

Oh.. you MIGHT want to have some quick to fix suppers around for days when the steam has been knocked outta your engine.

Paper plates too.

Maybe stock up on food so you won't need to go out more than needed.

Hope that helps!

Good luck and lettuce no how you are doing.. ok?

I have had several months of doxy IV. No big deal, just make sure to flush your line often and with lots of saline.

You will be very senstive to the sun, sun screen... even 50 spf WILL NOT WORK. There is a sun screen called bull frog (or something like that) it is used by surfers. It seems to work OK. If you can, cover up your hands and face with something. The hands are hard to do but once they get burn't the first time , you will know when they are getting too much sun as you can really feel the heat. Also despite the apperance, the sunburn scars on the hands will go away after you stop the drug.

Other than that it is no big deal except that the drug shelf life is short. You can mix it your self ( I did thie for a few months) OR you can ask for a sealed dry mix/saline bag - one trade name is minibag plus. Dependingion the dosage the dry mix may not be possible.

good luck.

I just want to offer some encouragement....I tried 3 other IV drugs before going to Doxy.

It was THE drug for me. And was the last antibiotic I was on. Been off them know for nearly 5 months. (Still working on getting to 100% though).

DOxy is easy, although you have to infuse it slowly...over two hours. So think about how to work it in to your daily schedule.

Mine came in a pressurized ball which is easy to use. So I could work, take it in the car or whatever.

Good luck!

Ask your pharmacist if you can have the infustion ball, instead of the IV drip bag.

It makes IV life a lot easier.
