I've had many lyme symptoms for nearly a year, however, the symptoms have profoundly increased over the last month...beginning the day after a surgery to remove a large lipoma from my under arm. Could surgery--or removing a large fatty lipoma--somehow trigger the LD symptoms to intensify? Most prominent is numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, and muscle twitching thoughout my body.

BTW, I'm undiagonsed (neg. WB), but meeting with a Lyme specialist in Chadds Ford, PA next week. I suspect I contracted LD in 2006, as I spent many weekends camping in PA and throughout the northeast.

Sorry to hear about your sugury [group hug]

I had lyph nodes removed aprox 10 years ago. One from my arm pit & groin~ another surgury to remove some from my abdomen. I had swollen nodes left over from lyme & told & told the doc these where from lyme but she didn't believe me.

Long story short was mis-diagnosised with lymphoma. The both surgurys where for nothing & the nodes where benign. I did not have a relaspe after these surgurys...thank God.

But I did not have a relaspe from surgury about 5 years ago when I had surgury to repair a ruptured disc in my back.

It ws a slow decline from there to my worst relpase ever. It has taken may years of Tx to get better now.

Any major stress on your body, immune sytem or mental stress's can trigger the lyme to become very active again and re-surface. So yes, it is very possible to have a relaspe or have lyme symptoms get worse after a surgury.

You proboaly know this already but A neg WB doesn't mean anything. The test are 50% inaccurate. You can still have lyme & test CDC negative . Here's a link that describes why: www.anapsid.org/lyme/lymeseroneg.html

Yes, Cave they are 2 different things [Smile]

My point was & is surgury of any type can possibly stir things up if you have lyme.

Forgot to ask but did you have antibiotics durning and or after surgury? If you have lyme that too can possibly cause a herx and stir symptoms up.

were you given STEROIDS? NO NO; it really messes up the system. it did on every surgery i had for 10-12 surgeries.

I believe they use steroids with anesthesia to avert a massive immune response to the tissue injuries caused by the surgery.

Steroids = Immune Suppression = Spirochete Field Day [shake]

I'm having a [dizzy]

day, so I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure they do use them.
