Thank all of you for all the information you gave me. Here is my quick story in case you didn't read it in "Seeking a Doctor"
I found a deer tick on me June 25th 07. About 10 days later I started to get chills, pain in my neck, back, shoulders, head ache and the right side of my face hurt.
The pain was pretty bad and I finally went to the hospital on July 8th. They did a Lyme titer and sent me home with an RX for Doxycycline.
Three days later I went back to the hospital, the pain was unbearable. I had Bells Palsy on the right side of my face and my right arm was numb.
I ended up staying there for 3 days. The titer was positive. I never had a rash.
They put in a picc line and was on IV Rocephin for a month.
I went to see Dr. S. in PA...near Philadelphia. He ordered tests to see if I was still positive and put me on Doxy 500mg twice a day.
My results from MDL lab:
Western blot: IgG- CDC Neg -41,23
IgM-CDC Pos- 41,39,23,18
C6 Peptide Positive- 6.77
IgG/IgM by Elisa- Positive-1.49
All other tests were negative.
He suggested I go back on IV Rocephin. I told him I had to go out of town at the end of Sept. for 10 days (this has been planned for over a year and I have to go). I asked him if I could take oral meds until I get back home. He said no problem and gave me an RX for Ceftin 500mg twice a day.
I still have symptoms: neck, shoulder pain, chills, my face hurts sometimes and just doesn't feel right. My floaters are a lot worse. So I went to see my primary care doc. She was not happy with the low dose ABX. She increased my Cefin dose to as much as I can tolerate, up to 4 grams a day
and also added Biaxin at the same dose. I'm going back to my PCP in 2 weeks for blood work. She is going to check drug levels plus other tests. She wants me to see a Lyme literate Ophthalmologist and Neurologist. I will post in "Seeking a Doctor" for suggestions.
So my impression with Dr. S: He's a nice guy but I don't think he is being aggressive enough with treatment.
Thanks!!!

Wow! At least you are clearly positive! NO question there!
Maybe he gave you a lower oral dosage while you're away....so you wouldn't herx too hard??
I'm shocked that you have a PCP who knows what's going on! Lucky you!

Now I'm a bit concerned that my LLMD also is not being agressive enough. I started a week ago on Zithromax twice a day. Now, I know that it's only been a week, but I remember when I was first treated 18 years ago my doc immediately put me on IV abx. As of yet I'm not feeling any better, I've been herxing a bit so it's actually been a bit worse.
We're still waiting for the bloodwork to test for the co-infections to come back so I assumed that's why he was starting off slow with treatment. Any thoughts?

I think IV Rocephin is as aggressive as it gets. Sounds like he just wants you to get through your trip with the orals.
