Morning everyone! I have come across this Salt- Vitamin C protocol for lyme. Have any of you tried it? Did anybody do a lot of research into it- I read what is on the lyme photos website and wondered if anyone gave it a go. Is it worth attempting before starting antibiotics or even after? Any thoughts, debate, or personal experiences here are very appreciated.

Dangerous. Can cause kidney and cardiac damage that is permanent. Do a search on this site for lengthy discussions.

Some people can tolerate it some can't. I have seen alot of people get better on it over time but there are better treatments out there. People on this forum usually bash the salt/c treatment on here so you will find better help on a salt/c forum

Lyme strategies is the yahoo group that has a lot of info on salt/C. I tried it for a year and did not get better and when I said so and questioned it I was banned from the site. If you choose to do it, expect it to take several years and make sure you have your kidney function tested regularly along with electrolytes and blood pressure.

I did salt C for about four months. It helped me.

I could tolerate three tablets a day (at 140 to 160 pounds.)

I have low blood pressure from adrenal fatigue, so one gram of salt a day is indicated for this condition.

I used one gram tablets from CMC because they are easy to swallow, and I took some liquid minerals with it to keep balanced.

Good advice that this protocol isn't good for everybody.

I felt it was quite helpful for me, but certainly not a cure for lyme.

Some people had lasting consequences. One person I know had permanent cardiac damage. Myself, my kidneys have not recovered 9 months later. I can feel the strain on my kidneys now when I take small amounts of IVIG, and they ache and I wheeze (did not before) and have a salty taste in my mouth. And I still have to stay on a very low salt diet, my tolerance for salt completely changed. I can't even risk the vitamin/mineral IV's I used to get weekly, as I am afraid they would strain the kidneys.

I was so weak after 4 days of that protocol that it took many many months to recover enough, actually only in the last month, did I feel well enough to run my errands in the neighborhood daily. And I'm still not back anywhere near to where I was pre-protocol, when I was taking busses or subways, walking halfway across town etc.

Everything else i've done (hyperbaric, IVIG, glutathione IV, vitamins and minerals IV) moved me up a notch in wellness, but salt/c was disastrous beyond conceiving.

Someone on CFS-FM experiemntal yahoo group just posted again on Friday Sept 7 about her severe reaction to the salt/c protocol, leading to cardiac damage.

The risks are too great. Ask your doctor about the dangers of that amount of salt. I should clarify that it sounds like bejoy was on 3 grams of salt a day. This might be a bit high in addition to dietary salt, but is nowhere near what the protocol itself calls for, which is 8-12 grams a day and some *insane* folks took as much as 18 grams a day. Some ramped up slowly and some didn't. But if it was going to harm somebody, it could do so at as little as a few grams a day. In my case it was the full dose of about 8-10 a day, for 4 days, that had lasting consequences. (Well, I hope not lasting for years, but so far lasting)
