Lyme, babesia, and now gout. At least my liver function and thyroid are fine...

Is gout related at all to the LD/babesia? My LLMD told me to drink more water and avoid sweets, but no elaboration, so I'm trying to get a sense of what I should do.

I had a kidney stone (ouch!) about 3 years ago and now wonder if that was caused by my overload of uric acid (at 7.3 whatever that means).

As always, your input is appreciated.

This has been years, but I don't think 7.3 is that high...mine was 5.7 or something like that when they tried to call it gout and it turned out they don't even prescribe allopurinol till it's over 10? somebody help...I think that's right...it's been 10 years though... It was lyme of course...

it's caused from arthrtis and i'm sure lyme/arthritis! dad had this terribly; they'd give him PREGNOSONE.

PREGNOSONE FOR LYMIES IS REALLY BAD!! is that what you were given today?

also go to: www.medlineplus.org and look up GOUT there; very user-friendly for illnesses, meds, and dictionary. [Wink]

I was not prescribed anything for the gout. I was told by my LLMD to stop eating sweets and to drink a ton of water.

I am not saying that this is what is going on exactly with you but do a little research on oxolate crystal build up in the body and muscle tissues. High levels of oxolate crystals contribute to kidney stones and gout issues.

My LLMD had come back from a conference about a year ago when there was much discussion about oxolate build up in the muscle tissues of patients. One of my primary complaints was the pain in my muscles, like they are clogged up with stuff blocking circulation.

My LLMD had an in-house homepathic muscle tester and he had me tested to see if it was an issues for me. Oh yes. The solution is calcium citrate instead of the other forms of calcium. I about a week the change occured in my muscles where there was dramatic improvement. I stayed on a higher dose of calcium citrate for about 2 weeks and then to only 1 pill a day.

A lot of the vegis that we eat, like broccoli for example, have a high level of oxolates. If we are not getting the right form of calcium the oxolates build up in our body.

If you do the research you will see a lot of information.

Gout. OOOUUUCCCCHHHHHHH!

A remedy for gout is cherry juice. Not the fake stuff they sell in the grocery store that is cherry flavored. It needs to be real cherry juice. You should be able to get it at the health food store. If you can't find it, eat about 1/2 pound of sweet or sour cherries a day.

They can actually extract fluid from the joint and test to see if it is uric crystals or not I believe. If uric crystals then Gout, if not then most likely something else like lyme...

They used to also say to stay away from too much red meat and caffeine also.

My parents [whom I am positive had Lyme long before they died] were BOTH diagnosed with gout in the 60's.

Their doctor said that was one for the medical records, because it was very rare for women to get it, and even more unusual for a married couple to both have it.

Now we know why!
