On Tuesday I did a glutathione infusion of 2000 mg. which I have been doing on and off for the last several months. Most of the time I would feel spaced out and fatigued afterwards.
This time though about an hour later I started having an increase in neuropathy and trouble breathing due to chostochondritis. The next day the neuropathy was off the chart and all my symptoms were intolerable. I am so confused because I thought glutathione was supposed to help you not make you worse. Well here it is Friday and my burning pain is everywhere and I am in tears. It seems like there are no answers.
Could my neurological symptoms-neuropathy, headaches, dizziness and numbness be caused by metals and not Lyme and that is why I had this reaction?

GLutathione is a detoxifier....and that dose IV is pretty darn high.
I get 800 weekly IV along with magnesium, C, trace minerals, B complex and B 12.

Call the physician that is prescribing your IV supplementation to get a clear answer to what may be going on. This is a situation that requires a professional answer if you are having this stron a reaction post IV.

Lastly, receiving that level of glutathione 'off and on' is a pretty big punch to your system....My doctor ramps up the glutathione as your body shows that it can tolerate higher doses.

I wonder about taking such a high dose off and on as well.

I think you are probably right about metals.

Glutathione can be a powerful detoxifyer.

If you are releasing metals and toxins from your cells, you may need to be doing it frequently to mop up the mess.

You don't need mercury that has been stored in your cells floating around, wreaking havoc, and then getting stored again.

If it were me I'd be taking glutathione with daily chlorella.

My ND says that if glutathione makes you feel worse, then you need to take it more or more often once you have mobilized metals and toxins.

Is there a professional near you who you can talk to about safe metal detoxification?

That is a very high dose. Why so much? I get 1000 mg. I found myself reacting adversely when I was given 1400 mg once. But also the source matters. I only use Wellness in Alabama. I reacted to glutathione from other compounding pharmacies. Its a very delicate molecule. It oxidizes very easily. It must be kept refrigerated without light. I also do it now in 15 cc of sterile water and it is more potent that way. I used to do it as a chaser in my IV's. I recommend the sterile water which you actually can do as an IV or else a gentle "push". I think it does best in sterile water.

Thank you for your responses. Yes I am going to find someone experienced in detoxification because this is torture. I still have not recovered from this injection and it makes me wonder if my Lyme symptoms are instead a metals problem.
I get my glutathione from Wellness Pharmacy also and do not think it is the glutathione itself because intensification of symptoms should not come on so suddenly from taking a supplement even though it is a high dose.
It is sad that we have to learn from so much suffering.

Intensification of symptoms can come on that quickly, particularly at that high dose.

If you use high levels of glutathione you need to be under the care of a doc who works with chronically ill patients, like cancer, lyme or chronic fatigue.

One high dose IV is not helpful...It needs to be over a period of weeks to facilitate the detoxification process...a process, not an all at once sort of thing.

I think you have the right idea to detox, just a rushed program..you need a more gradual, effective way to manage this that will give you the best outcome.

For newbies...glutathione is our #1 antioxidant. Two of the several nutrients needed to make it are cysteine and glycine. Bb depletes those so our #1 antioxidant protection from "free radicals - most are lone oxygen molecules - is lost.

#2 kicks in...melatonin...sleepy.

When antioxidant stress is REMOVED it is LIKELY this supports our own ability to fight.

When Bb is destroyed, what is released? Well, we know several amino acids in its protein cell walls AND zinc from Bb's zinc fingers and manganese (because Bb uses Mn to replicate).

Those minerals...trace...could then raise to toxic levels. One of the worse minerals in excess to impact our brain is iron. Lactoferrin helps out.

Curiously, to bind Zn and Mn takes vitamin C and SOD...superoxide dismutase. SOD binds to Mn and vitamin C binds to zinc (that is what is in zinc lozenges).

That is strange...an antioxidant enzyme and an antioxidant to counter the excessive Zn and Mn that are released when Bb is destroyed.

I wonder if it is important to supplement the antioxidant ENZYMES at the same time (and C)?

SOD by Solaray contains all 3. It is an oral pill and I don't know if it is destroyed by stomach acids (would be important to reduce those acids somewhat by taking that supp. with a full glass of water).

Jill, your comment about glutathione being easily oxidized is curious.

It can react to O2 AND O? To form/breakdown to WHAT?

i don't know if my brain is getting better or if marnie is writing in a way easier to understand-but this is the first time i could really follow what she said

THANKS MARNIE!!!!! anytime you have the time/energy to break your info down so newbies can understand it is wonderful.

ps-i am not a newbie...have dealt with lyme since 84---but i always know marnie says good stuff...just usually can't figure it out.

this was great!
