Dear Friends,

While researching about dosages for Doxycyline, I came across this interesting article about Lyme, autoimunity, MCS, and aspartame.

Hope others find it helpful as well!

Best,

Cass A

Lyme treponema??? Is he usingthat as a generic term for pathogenic spirochetes?

Nice to read this right after I have yogurt with aspartame in it.... [bonk]

You know,

I was never aroma sensitive until I started drinking diet sodas. I did have allergies to the dye color of medicines which I thought was weird prior.

A study of symptoms of lyme only and aspartane only and one of people with lyme that use aspartane would be interesting. Or just research polls.

Really, how much better would I be without aspartane. Trouble is I have excessive thirst with adh and acth problems and have pain if restrict liquids. (of course mri unclear}

You'd be a lot better without aspartame, sixgoofy!! Drink iced tea with stevia.

I have never been able to tolerate aspartame, I tried it years ago before I knew I was sick, gave me a horrile headache. Same with MSG.

I love stevia and it never bothers me.

I looked it up and yes, treponema is a spirochette. Interesting article.

Thanks for posting it. But did anyone else notice his conformation of LD being sexually transmitted? I was hoping someone can verify this for me.
[confused]
If I understand this correctly, I might just have what I need to convince my s/o to get tested!!!

So I've got my fingers & toes crossed because he shows sx of LD. [shake]

Yes...but I would be concerned about any doctor who thought Lyme is treponema. Totally different bug, kids. Treponema is a different genetic structure than BB.

Not to say that I don't avoid fake sweetners...I also avoid sorbitol. Check your vitamin lables...you could be taking one without even knowing. I get migraines from aspartame and I get colitis from sorbitol. Not kidding at all.

I put fresh lemon in my black and green teas to sweeten.

Its still good advice even though the guy doesn't know enough about what the bacteria is to be writing about it.

Granted, syphilis (Treponema palladium) is Lyme's closest spirochete-cousin, but I don't think Bb is in the Treponema family...... not sure at all about that, though.

Yes, interesting article, just the same. And it may be no coincidence that my Lyme symptoms really came to the forefront about the time that I started using aspartame....... hmmm.

Has anyone used xylitol as a sugar-substitute?

I just got a pound of it from Vitacost because (1) it kills LOTS of bugs in the mouth, and (2) it is supposed to help with absorption and assimilation of calcium in the gut. I also started using a xylitol nasal wash again, which kills bugs in the nasal passages.

Xylitol (xylose) is a naturally occurring sugar derived from corn cobs and birch trees. It inhibits the ability of bacteria to attach to the tissues of the teeth, mouth, nose, and throat. It has a much lower glycemic effect when eaten so diabetics can often use it, and has 40% fewer calories than regular sugar.

The consistency is much like sugar, and I swear it tastes almost the same. Supposedly, you can bake with it just like sugar. You have to be careful, though, as it can cause diarrhea if you ingest too much in one day (so I've read).

Heck, the stuff might actually be good for me (in moderation, of course). [Smile]

Hey, I'm in trouble already and haven't even posted on this thread!!!

I spent a couple YEARS getting my dad to stop consuming aspartame ... I wouldn't dream of drinking diet soda! I drink water, lots and lots of water. [Smile]

Dear Friends,

Glad to have found some helpful data to share!!

I've tried Xyletol, and it works fine as a sweetener!

I also use a nasal wash, Xlear, that is just Xyletol and water--works great!! The theory is that the bacteria can't attach to your membranes if Xyletol is present. Helps with allergies and colds. Nice.

Best,

Cass A

I drink alot of diet coke. I mean alot. I am an addict.. I cant imagine quitting..

How do I start.

Posted by sixgoofykids (Member # 11141) on :

I stopped years ago after reading ONE article on aspartame!

Do not try to cut out caffeine at the same time you're getting off the Coke as it's also addictive.

I switched to sweetened ice tea ... eventually unsweetened tea ... years later, all I drink is water.

Sometime sit in a quiet place with an open, Coke can and just listen ... that also helped me quit.

hey yourtrouble [Smile]

How about trying some herbal teas? I brew up LG batch's of ginger root tea ~ using decaff tea, peppermint & a large huck of ginger root. I put it in the fridge & drink tons of it. It tastes really good over ice & the ginger is anti-inflammatory. Good for herxing too. Maybe this might help you kick the diet soda thing?

hey cass [Smile] I love my Xlear xyilitol nasal spray too. Works really well to keep my sinus problems down
