Has anyone ever had a rash incorrectly identified as scabies? or been prescribed the lotion for scabies and the rash did not respond to the lotion?

I just did a search and came up with about 15 responses when I typed in "scabies"...
there is no mistaking having it. the itching is UNBEARABLE. worse by 1000% than having poison ivy, which is what i initially thought i had. i would take scalding- burn the skin- hot showers to relieve the itching for a few minutes.
steroids helped for a day or two- the dr thought it was poison ivy too, since scabies is not a first world disease. then the steroids did squat and the itch and rash has spread all over.
i remember the creeping crawling feeling too, but it was caused by real creepy crawling things (YUCK!!) not neuropathy, which i now have all the time- totally different sensations.
ps- i'm almost positive i got scabies from someone who sat next to me on an Amtrak train. He was GROSSLY unclean- i literally had to hold my breath everytime he turned in my direction, his breath was so bad, and i can only begin to guess how many WEEKS it had been since he took a shower.
Scabies is HIGHLY contagious...

I was!!
Oh brother, the whole family had to use acticin, (sp) I spent weeks on the scabies threads. Having two different docs confirm scabies clinically. Nothing on a slide though!
Yes, it was lyme...
I later returned to those threads trying to spread the word now that I was sure there was quite a few there with the same presentation I had.
best regards,
Julia

I've had both scabies a long time ago and a rash two years ago I thought was scabies. But the real thing responds to the anti-scabies cream, and the false scabies does not!
I believe I got the false scabies rash due to full body exposure to an electric blanket. I was starting to become chemically sensitive to touching fabrics/materials. So check out whether you are becoming more sensitive to materials.
