As I said there, my LLMD (a very well known and respected one in NY!) suggested adding Doxy to my present regime of Zith, Malarone, Bicillin, Art, Plaq, which really concerns me, as I know that "Concomitant treatment with tetracycline and Mepron/Malarone has been associated with approximately 40% reduction in plasma concentration of atovaquone " - several sources for this including Dr.B and Dr.S -
and Doxy also prevents Bicillin from reaching full effect - well documented on pharmacy websites, patient info leaflets etc - , and with the huge monthly cost (over $1000) of Malarone (3 a day) and Bicillin (3 a week), I'm not willing - without good reason- to add something which is documented to affect the absorption of these two meds.
So before I contact my LLMD about this issue I just wanted to know if other patients have used this combo and had success in spite of warnings to the contrary! Of course I respect and trust my LLMD, but wonder if he has overlooked this possible problem this one time!

My daughter had doxy with malarone.....she did good, I thought about it....but you never know how crazy Lyme is, so I just complied with the treatment. I would keep the treatment and then ask him on the next appt.

Hi Elaine,
I was concerned about a similar conflict too, because I am taking low-dose minocycline with bicillin. I asked my doc recently about this. It did not make sense to me, if mino works by being bacteriostatic (preventing the Bb from replicating), and bicillin works by killing the Bb when they replicate, why I should take them together?
But I have to say this combo is working quite well for me. He said that it was OK, and I trust his advice.
