My husband just started Levaquin and has had a severe headache, worst naseua, and can not sleep well. Is this normal?

Dr. only prescribed Levaquin at my request and only for 6 weeks. He is on Fentanyl 100mcg and takes Elavil 50 mg. daily, plus Effexor, Xanax, Toprol and Reglan.

No one understands our situation here and this is really the only place i can express my thoughts.

If I do not get back to you it is because I only check this when I am home, we are staying with my family, because for some reason my husband does not want to come home.

We have been staying with them off and on since July first due to no air conditioning then no heat and now I am not sure why.

I think he is just scared to be alone and I have to run with our kids quite often and my parents are retired so they are home mostly. Anyone else go through this?

You guys have been some much help to me just to realize there are others with this problem and answering my questions.

Thank you

My first six weeks on Levaquin was very tough. Insomnia is common with bartonella, so it's no surprise he has it ... I take Ambien to sleep, otherwise I get no sleep at all.

Hang in there! I have had a huge improvement from bart treatment. I will be switching over to Rifampin in a month as my LLMD doesn't want me to be on Levaquin longer than three months, but he doesn't want to stop the bart treatment.

It doesn't surprise me your hubby doesn't want to be alone. It's a hard disease. There were many days I could not be left alone in my house .... now I'm doing much, much better ... pretty close to normal again.

Oh, I never in my life had headaches until I started Levaquin! I'm still on it, but the headaches are gone ... took six weeks.

The insomnia for me on levaquin was horrible!

It caused me some neuropathy as well. I had to discontinue the levaquin due to both.

May want to call LLMD just to be sure.

Hugs,

Geneal

Yes I have insomnia and it's worse on levaquin (so far at least - just started). I have also been having a lot of nausea and headaches. I'm not even up to 500 mgs yet.

your husband's worsening of sx, although disheartening, is probably a very good sign.

especially for this particular med.

why is he on so many physc meds?

not that i question his need, i know the full extent of tbd's abilties to make one thoroughly insane, just curious.

as to why he doesnt want to go home, youre probably right about him not wanting to be alone.

when i was bedridden, and death was my daily companion, i did not want to be alone, for fear of not eventually not waking.

i will pray for you and your husband.

he will be ok. i was there a year ago, now i am
@ about 50% functioning capacity.

hang in there, he will be ok.

humbly,

derek

It takes a while to download.

You need to check for drug interactions with Levaquin and the other meds he is on! Very important!

[you could call the pharmacist and give him the list]

or check here:

Levaquin was a tough drug for me to be on. I felt awful most the time I was on it and was sooooo glad when I was taken off it!

I had bad insomnia, especially in the beginning. I was also much more fatigued than usual while on it.

I also had really hard herxes, which included horrible fatigue and worse insomnia. I remember many days when I got up, walked the dogs in my pj's with my coat over them and fell back into bed until I had to take them out again!

I was living in a temporary apartment and moved into a new home while on it. No wonder I am still unpacking 6 months later!

I also recall that my emotions were very fragile while on Levaquin.

The good news? I knew it was killing something that I have not tested positive for.

This was recently posted here and has convinced me since the "insert" on the FDA website matches what this site claims: http://www.fluoroquinolones.org/

There are other ways to kill Bart &/or Ehrlichia, Doxy or Rifampin and newer quinolone drug Dr. H in Calif is using that he believes is safer than Levaquin or Cipro called Factive.

But the problem about this class of drugs it is next to impossible to decipher herx from side effects.
