Hi
I know many of you have jaw pain like me..but do you also have pain in your teeth? Mine seems to come and go and center on three teeth in the upper back part of my mouth?

I had tooth implants and a bone graft over a year ago and this seems to be where the pain is the worst. I first thought maybe I am allergic to the implants or graft material but the pain is not all the time nor is there any inflamation you can see in the gums.

Trust me before the Lyme diagnosis I had lots of x-rays and they never saw anything.

I had a root canal also in Oct. when I came out of the second hospital..due to tooth pain before I was diagnosed with Lyme...this tooth also hurts on and off.

The weird thing is that it does not always hurt...seems to come in hours/days? I was told not to pull out my teeth...it is the Lyme or babs. Has anyone else had this happen..my constant question..does it go away?

I wish I had a magic wand...

Monica,

There is a real connection between lyme and teeth and in fact, lots of bacteria set up housekeeping in your teeth which biological dentists say will not show up in an x-ray.

There have been lots of chats here about teeth and some sound arguments against this theory.

I won't go there but will make a suggestion to you that really helps me.

It sounds ridiculous and I still try to figure out why does it really work. I don't know the answers but I can tell you that for me it stops my tooth pain pronto.

It is cheap and harmless to try. Oil pulling.

www.oilpulling.com

You use Sunflower or Sesame Oil. Put a tbsp in your mouth and suck it through your teeth. Don't swallow it. Try to do this for 20 mins in the morning before eating.

At first, I couldn't go more than 5 mins because my mouth would fill up with saliva. I would just keep doing another tbsp until 20 mins was up.

Now I am able to do 1 tbsp for the entire time which they say means my bacterial load is down. Afterward, I rinse my mouth with warm salt water.

After reading about this many times and thinking "they have got to be kidding", I woke up one morning with swollen gums and throbbing teeth and thought, Ok, I will give it a try. It worked. My joint pain was also less that day but not sure I believe the oil gets the credit.

Another benefit I have reaped is cleaner, whiter teeth. Not sparkling white like a bleach would do, but all the tea and coffee stains are gone.

I used to get my teeth cleaned twice a year and could tell when it was time because of a slight plaque buildup on the back of my lower front teeth.

With the cost of lyme treatment, I dropped the tooth cleanings 2 yrs ago. I only began the oil pulling 3 mths ago but that rough plaque buildup behind my front lower teeth is gone.

So at the least, you can save on dental cleanings and you will know very soon if it will help you with your tooth pain like it did mine.

Some say it's bacteria in the tooth sockets.

After my daughter had three root canals due to teeth pain (before diagnosis), we finally decided when she gets it to wait it out.

We have noticed that it is transient pain, that responds to ibuprofen and sometimes vicodin.

Personally, I think it may be inflammation from bacteria in the nerves, primarily the trigeminial nerve that goes along the jaw and face.

If it switches from side to side, comes and goes, it's all part of the disease, don't rush to the dentist. Ours always found some kind of hairline crack.

Thanks Luvs..I will try it.

And Kelly it does come and go so I think it is from the lovely Lyme and babs as you say. Last time I had a root canal..in Oct. I could not open my mouth again for three weeks. So I do not want to go back to the dentist anytime soon and open my jaw wide (not to mention my neck). I am in quite enough pain right now [Smile]

I don't have teeth pain, but my teeth are loose. It's not an obvious loose to the dentists I've had check it out, but once in a while I really notice them clicking or moving around -- very uncomfortable, scary feeling. It seems to also come and go on different days.

disturbed

check out the website I posted for oil pulling. It claims to tighten loose teeth.

The only time my teeth feel loose is when one of my root canals swell. Then the tooth is loose until the swelling goes down.

Endodontist says this is sinus infections causing the swelling.

Mine hurt when they are loose. But, it has not happened to me since 12/05. (yes, it hurts bad enough that I remember the last time)

I have had pain in my teeth come and go with no actual teeth problems...

I also have had what feels like bone pain in my arms and legs ...so I figure its the same cause ...

I dont have any proof but I think it is the lyme or babs (curiously that is also the combo I have) aggraving my teeth nerves from time to time.

Oh and my jaw is actually one of the few places in my body I haven't had pain over the years.

Azure,

You are lucky you haven't had the jaw pain. It was my first symptom and was so bad, I would wake up with my jaw way out of line. I couldn't open and close my mouth and kept running to the chiropractor to have her set it straight.

Finally, I learned how to move it back myself.

The pain was really bad but then the pain in all my swollen joints was just as bad. At one point, every joint in my body was inflamed except my hips and spine. It was so bad, I had to just fall back in the bed because my fingers, hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders were so bad I couldn't brace with them. Getting up required my husband's help.

Anyway, jaw pain was one of the worst.

I get jaw and teeth pain and tension - sometimes it's so severe I have trouble talking.

I thought it was just Lyme and babs, but I'd noticed it always seemed to happen when my neighbor was out on his deck using his cell phone.

Since he uses it inside when he's not smoking and microwaves travel through most building materials, and since I'm located between him and the nearest tower, I was able to link my jaw and teeth discomfort to the glorious wireless revolution.

I am now electrosensitive, and I don't even own a cell phone.

Luvs- I am sorry you had so much jaw pain. I have no idea how i got to get out of that one. as far as joints go my jaw and spine are the only thing the lyme hasnt hit over the years.

Actually when I was young they said my bite was off and I had braces and I had to wear a little ruberband thingy that connected from the top to the bottom...

I got braces the summer after 6th grade so I had already had lyme a year and a half or so. Maybe this saved me from suffering with jaw stuff later.

lpkayak - that is interesting that low vitamin d can cause tooth pain cuz I found out recently that mine is low and my guess is it didnt get that low over night.

I am with you Luvs...both the jaw and teeth issue and it really stinks when you add on all the other symptoms. My jaw is so bad today! I have a friend getting me the oil so I can try it later. I'll let you know if it helps.

I am just really tired today and I think it makes everything worse.

I have the jaw pain and Have weird sensations in my teeth or gums. It is almost like pressure or an increased awareness of my teeth.

I have really healthy teeth. I worry about them so much?
