Have you checked it out? It doesn't give you much info about the book on amazon. Is it written by a Doc?

Posted by SForsgren (Member # 7686) on :

I have not. It mentions Dr. D. and someone else in another post I saw elsewhere mentioned Dr. L.F. though I have not looked further.

Read the first paragraph for one of the listed authors specs
Dr. S.D., Lyme Disease

Yes, S.D. is a pretty well known LLMD and has spoken at a number of conferences. I always appreciate any good information that may help us better understand our illnesses and treatment options. Thanks for the link. [Smile]

Dr. D is NOT a co-author. His name was supposed to have been removed from all publicity of this book.

Dr. D told me he originally wrote the forward but the publisher added his name as co-author without his permission. I am not sure if his forward will even be included in the finished product.

Wow, that's horrible- it is being promoted with him as co-author- there were posts about it elsewhere citing him as the co-author!!!

I know.

When we had our appointment, I congratulated him on the book. He just looked at me and wondered how I knew about it. He just shook his head when I told him it was on Amazon.

He is trying hard to stick to the middle of the road, and effect a change of opinion from the inside out. He doesn't need this aggravation.

I can't find anything on the other listed author. Does anyone know who she is?

Perhaps Dr. D. should ask amazon to take his name off. I wouldn't assume that there is any wrong doing here but then I don't know.

Well, if Dr. D. asked for his name to be removed and it was not, in my book, that totally invalidates everything about the book.

Credibility must be complete and 100%, otherwise there is no trust at all.

Yep, his name is as a coauthor at Amazon. So, if he says he is not, then it appears to be plagiarism - that is very serious. At the least, it is misleading. We don't need that in a book that might have served many well.

Terry- He read the draft and said that it was good, so that is why he agreed to write the forward.

He never gave permission to be listed as a co-author and was told that his name was being removed. When we saw him, he thought the matter had been settled.

Keebler- the book may be quite good and credible.

The actual author may have nothing to do with this, just the publisher being pushy...or Amazon being slow to fix their website.

Yes, however, the manner in which is is promoted is wrong. That stains everything about the book as it's presented with a lie.

I hope there is a swift and proper remedy.

As an author I can tell you there's probably no foul play here. I coauthored a book out last year and the wonderful man who wrote the foreword was also listed on amazon as "author". That's just how Amazon does it, they list as au's those who write forewards and intros too. As long as their name is on the cover. That's all.

However, one of our longest suffering and bravest lymies on here went to Dr LF if I recall and was basically kicked out for being too complex a case...

oxygenbabe - thanks for the inside info., explaining that is may not be purposeful deception. I'm sure many an author has been pushed around by a publisher or promoter.

I used to teach journalism ( and ETHICS in journalism) so I'm a stickler for honesty at every step.

Thanks, too, for the note on the doctor who is the authority in the book. Too bad about the patient. We've all been dropped from doctors for being too complex (they use a different term, though). However, we'd like to think the specialists have all the answers. So, we all keep learning.

Publication date: 6/30/2008 not available yet.

I looked at the cover. No mention of Dr. D, just the one author.

However, the listing is this:

Beating Lyme: Understanding and Treating This Complex and Often Misdiagnosed Disease (Paperback)
by Constance A. Bean (Author), Sam T. Donta (Author)

There is no way to look inside the book.

Too bad that Amazon takes such liberties. It is so against proper standards. Ultimately, it reflects upon the reputation of the author.

It also seems grossly unfair to have Dr. D's name as a author if he himself instructed his name to be omitted.

As well, the community of those interested in bringing out the truth about lyme disease and TBI simply cannot accept mistakes in presentation. I hope it can be corrected.

Thanks tanzi2u, good to know.

I agree with Keebler, what the heck is amazon doing saying someone is an author when they are not?? Personally I feel it is misleading to list someone as an author when they are not. The person who writes the forward is usually someone very well respected in the field. Listing them as an author gives the book a certain prestige that perhaps it does not deserve. The fact that Dr. D's name was listed as an author had me almost buying the book on the spot.

I won't buy the book until I know something about the author.

Click on au's name, now you know something about the au.

Looks like she's written about murder, back pain and childbirth as well.

Preview some of the book:

Her background is in the book on google books. Its fairly distinguished so maybe this will be a good book.

I think you guys gotta pick your battles. The way Amazon lists books should not be your battle. Finding a way to kill spirochetes without killing humans at the same time should be your battle.

I don't see Dr D. listed on it anymore! Wonder if the Lyme just got to me an made it disappear in my head? [bonk]
