Ok, here is a new one. Ended up in ER for stomach issues (was on Clindamyacin at the time) and by ACCIDENT, they ran a pregnancy test on me. I am 50 years old and had a total and complete hysterectomy 18 years ago. They ran it again, still positive. Was run a 3rd time few days later, still positive and rising.
Was sent to an oncologist today.
He said only 2 reasons for this hormone to exist.... is either you are pregnant or you have a germ cell tumor somewhere in your body. I am having full body CAT scans tomorrow.
Anyone have any insight on this?

Still no takers?

I don't know about this hormone, but Lyme certainly affects hormones.

I was getting so hairy before I started with Dr. S. last March that my legs were beginning to look furry.

I wouldn't jump to the tumour conclusion.

Please let us know how that checks out, and our thoughts and love are with you.

At this point I am still figuring out how long I have had Lyme. So keep that in mind as I share my story...

Nov. 2006 I came down with what my doctor called, atypical pneumonia. I was treated with 15 days of Levaquin. During that time I had a couple chest Xrays and a Cat Scan. At the time I was 38.

After I finished the Levaquin and was feeling better, I realized I should have had my cycle but it was late by a week...My husband had had a vasectomy, so I had no reason to think I could be pregnant. But to satisfy my curiousity, I purchase pregnancy tests. I FELT pregnant....tender breasts, hypersalivation. I've had 4 children so I know how it feels;)

Were we absolutely shocked when it came back positive! I researched failed vasectomies, and false positive pregnancy tests.

Just when I began to recover from the shock and embrace the idea of another child, I cycled. But I was left to wonder...Was it a pregnancy or was it a false positive pregnancy potentially caused by cancers or other things I had read about?

We had my husbands semen checked again, twice. No sperm. I had an ultrasound and additional bloodwork done. My OBGYNY thought it was possibly a miscarriage, but she couldn't say for sure. It was her guess. She didn't offer any other explanation. I also thought it could be a premenopausal thing. But I continue to have a predictable cycle and have never been irregular thusfar.

Ever since then, in lieu of the fact I now know I have Lyme, I have wondered if pregnancy tests would normally show up positive for a Lymie...?

I still don't have the answers, but I do wonder...

I hope you get some answers...

I don't know the answer, but here are a few suggestions to consider.

1. miracle

2. leftover remnant of ovarian tissue from the hysterectomy producing hormone

3. cyst on your ovary

4. PCOS poly cystic ovary syndrome

5. false pregnancy pseudocyesis (sp?)

I think you could find knowledgeable information at the Midwifery Today forum.

I believe HCG is produced by the placenta. But, I think there are some other sources of HCG.

I assume you've had your ovaries removed since you said you had a complete hysterectomy. Sometimes they may miss a teensy portion of ovary...not enough to give you periods, but enough to produce some hormones.

With my first pregnancy, that ended in miscarriage,

My HCG levels kept rising although I had already miscarried the baby. [confused]

Talk about upsetting. My body kept saying I was pregnant when I knew I wasn't.

The kicker is 5 months post miscarriage, on routine pap smear,

Pre-cancerous cells are noted. Okay great.

Not only will I not have a baby, I will die of cancer.

Was scheduled for a biopsy of my cervix when I found out I was pregnant again.

Forty weeks later I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

Never had abormal paps since then.

Have you had a pap smear done recently?

I get all of these pregnancy symptoms like tender breasts,

Nausea, late periods, etc. with Lyme.

I am "fixed". Can't have any more children.

I would not think it out of the question to have abnormal hormone levels

As a symptom of Lyme.

Sending you positive thoughts and prayers for a positive outcome.

Also check the lab. Some labs say that less than 10 is normal.

Some say less than 5. It is common with ovarian cysts.

Hugs,

Geneal

Thank you all for your ideas and input. I did go to my gyno day before yesterday and he did a trans-vaginal ultrasound himself, on me. Nothing. No remnents left. I never realized that could even have been a possibility....but one oncologist said even though you had uterus, cervix and both ovaries removed years ago.....there could still be a little tiny piece left. But no, Nothing there.
Went for the full body CAT scans today.
I am almost at my wits end.

Ive been pregnant for years! Even before I KNEW i had lyme, i was always pregnant ( sometimes I was). So I have had that experience as well.

I had my tubes tied and was STILL pregnant. I DO have a tumor, on my kidney though.
