I think I finally have an answer that explains all of my GI / gallbladder symptoms! Even though my gallstones resolved on their own (they went away after I stopped the rocephin), my actual gallbladder is NOT emptying. My ejection fraction is only 10% (normal limits is 30-40%). Anyone else have this problem?????????????? [hi] [shake]

Not exactly - - - BUT I had gall stones. Before they knew I had Lyme. I was in constant pain, but my surgery was scheduled for 2 months away. I was admitted into hospital for emergency gall bladder surgery - no additional testing was done. They just took the gall bladder. The surgeon told my husband that he just removed a healthy gall bladder - no stones. But my symptoms - PAIN - were the same from beginning to surgery. Are you still having pain? I've always wondered what could have been wrong with my gall bladder! I definitely had Lyme already, just was not diagnosed??????

How could the suergon say that your gallbladder was normal if you had stones?? For me, I did not have ANY of these symptoms until mid-way through my rocephin tx. I just received my HIDA results yesterday- but I haven't talked to the doc yet. I am not sure if I will need to have it out or not.

The hospital emergency room ran an ultrasound and said I had stones. Weeks later when the surgeon did the surgery, there were no stones.

Pretty common among Lyme patients. I had gallstones and a bad HIDA scan....can't remember the ejection fraction since that was more than 2 yrs ago.

I hope you will feel much better after the surgery...I did!! [Smile]

LymeToo:

Do you remember what your symptoms were that led you to surgery??

My understanding is that if the HIDA scan shows the gallbladder is sick, you usually want to take it out. There are cleanses some people use to try to cleanse out the gallbladder.

But my LLMD says that if the gallbladder has a low ejection factor, then it is a wonderful breeding ground for the Lyme because it isn't moving enough. She told me at the start that she won't treat somebody with a sick gallbladder until it is out.

Has anyone had their gallbladder out then taken for biopsy??

I had my gallbladder out on Jan 7th due to six full months of Rocephin IV. I also had the HIDA Scan and my understanding is your score should be 30 or higher to be considered normal functioning.

I had a ton of stones. I am still doing the Rocephin with no problems. If you are experiencing gallbladder attacks they recommend having it removed so you don't end up with emergency surgery and possible sepsis.

My gallbladder tissue is now being tested at Igenex for the borrelia bacteria.

Hope this helps.

Not gallbladder, but I had a liver biopsy and had a second sample taken and sent to MDL for testing for all the tick borne illnesses.
